List of clinic groups

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of clinic groups (also clinic group , hospital chain or hospital group ) includes hospitals or conglomerates , each of which operates several hospitals or clinics , as well as other medical facilities such as supply centers.

Development, history

Since around the 1990s, corporate associations have developed that run several clinics. In addition, internationalization can be observed in this area, including in the Netherlands and United Kingdom. Some of the operators or owners are former managing directors or directly the associations mentioned themselves, which, thanks to the other legal form, allow themselves greater scope for action, including financial ones.

Hospital chains grow almost exclusively through the acquisition of hospital facilities with a supply mandate or planned hospital status . The background is that this is the only way to ensure participation in the care of the legally insured, who make up the majority of the population and are therefore important for securing income from a business point of view. This applies primarily to the acute area. In the area of rehab clinics, the pension insurers are largely the cost bearers of the measures, which have around 20,000 beds of their own in almost 100 rehab clinics. Establishing new institutions is rather rare. The acquisition is accompanied by a so-called material privatization .

Another possibility are management contracts . As a rule, operational management is assigned to a hospital chain or organization for a limited period of time but is long-term. The effects of the restructuring on the healthcare market , on employees (including future ones) and customers in the respective catchment area must be taken into account.

In Germany, the Federal Cartel Office investigated the takeover of the Rhön-Klinikum company by Helios Kliniken (part of the Fresenius ProServe Group ) in 2012 . Helios had previously taken over Damp Holding . In addition, the takeover of proDiako by Agaplesion was put to the test. In the meantime, Asklepios took over Mediclin and had a minority stake in Rhön-Klinikum examined by the Federal Cartel Office.
