history

In 1218 the knight Konrad von Boffzen built the Heilig-Geist-Hospital in Höxter. He was inspired by the hospital “S. Spirit ”, which he noticed during a crusade in Rome . It was founded in dependence on the famous Arch Brotherhood of Santo Spirito in Sassia . The hospital in Höxter consisted of a hospice , a chapel and a churchyard and was operated in the Heiligegeiststraße area until 1850. The St. Nikolai Hospital started operations in 1850. From 1850 to 1878 first in today's Bachstrasse, from 1878 to 1978 in a former military hospital in Grubestrasse 23. From 1910 to 1978 a Protestant hospital was operated in parallel on Bismarckstrasse.

The location at Brenkhäuser Strasse 71 was put into operation in 1978 and replaced the other two houses. The planning for the construction began in 1966 by the operators of the St. Nikolai Hospital. On the part of politics, however, only one hospital was considered worthy of support for Höxter, so that the Protestant and Catholic operators had to develop a joint concept for operating a house. On February 12, 1969, a joint agreement between the parishes involved was signed. The committee for steering the institution consisted of the parish dean of the St. Nikolai parish and three representatives as well as the evangelical parish of Höxter. Construction began in August 1974.

One of the largest construction measures to date is the complete redesign of the entrance area and the hospital driveway. In 2010 a specialist center was built next to the St. Ansgar Hospital, which today also houses the MVZ Weser-Egge Höxter. In 2013 a new, modern central ambulance was set up.

The most important medical developments include the establishment of a specialist department for neurology in 2006, the establishment of the Center for Internal Medicine with the fields of cardiology and gastroenterology in 2007, the establishment of special departments for oncology and radiation therapy in 2010 and 2012, and expansion of surgery to a vascular surgery department in 2016.

In 2017, the merger of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery from Höxter to the Brakel location led to protests among citizens and the citizens' initiative "Trauma Surgery Immediately Back to Höxter" was founded and carried out several demonstrations. Mayor Alexander Fischer and several politicians from the Höxter council also publicly criticized the KHWE management. In April 2018, around 45 companies also joined in a petition calling for trauma surgery to return to the Höxter site.

history

In 1864, the sisters of the Order of the Poor Maidservants of Jesus Christ (ADJC) from the mother house in Dernbach (Westerwald) began to serve the sick in Bad Driburg under modest circumstances. In 1879 the Hotel Kothe was bought by the Catholic Church and was run as an affiliated hospital under the name "Josephinum". For many decades the sick and injured found help and care in the “Josephinum”. In the wars it served as a hospital. Generations of doctors, the sisters of the Order of the Poor, maidservants of Jesus Christ and other nursing staff served in this house. But the inadequacies, the difficult working conditions and the susceptibility to repairs of the Josephinum increased over the years, so that the parish of St. Peter and Paul, Bad Driburg, decided to plan a new building.

The history of the St. Josef Hospital began in September 1964 with the laying of the foundation stone for the new hospital in Bad Driburg. At a cost of around DM 11 million, the new building on Weberhöhe was built in a construction period of around three years. On March 20, 1967, the last patients left the old “Josephinum” hospital in the city center, which was finally torn down as part of the city center renovation.

The official inauguration took place in May 1967, at that time with the specialist departments of surgery, internal medicine with the special department of liver clinic, gynecology and obstetrics as well as an ear, nose and throat department. In 1968 a department for clinical psychiatry was set up, which had a model character and was run nationwide as the first open psychiatric department in a general hospital.

In the following years the St. Josef Hospital continued to develop with the expansion of an intensive care unit and the establishment of a psychiatric day clinic. In 1979 the entire hospital building was increased and the psychiatry department moved to the top floor. After around twenty years, renovation measures were carried out on the exterior facade. The St. Josef Hospital got a new look from the mid-1980s with the clinkering of the building and the installation of new windows. At the end of the 1990s, interior renovations continued. From 1997 the modernization of the individual wards and the hospital kitchen began.

In 2001 the central laboratory was set up, which today still supplies three hospitals and six rehabilitation clinics with its services. The entrance area, the garden and the cafeteria have all been redesigned. A total of 10 million euros were invested in funding and own funds between 1995 and 2005. In 2005 the St. Josef Hospital became the sponsor of the newly founded holding company "Katholische Hospitalvereinigung Weser-Egge gGmbH" (KHWE), which drove further medical and structural measures. In 2007, for example, the surgical department was rebuilt and expanded for 3.5 million euros and the psychiatric department renovated for 4.1 million euros. In 2017, internal medicine was further expanded with the division into the departments Medical Clinic I (focus: cardiology) and Medical Clinic II (focus: gastroenterology) as well as the construction of a left-heart catheter measuring station.

H. in the post-operative follow-up care of older, multiple and chronically ill patients. A day clinic is also connected. The St. Rochus Seniorenhaus Steinheim is in the immediate vicinity.

history

The institution is named after the patron saint of the city of Steinheim, Rochus von Montpellier . In 1637 the mayor and the council of the town of Steinheim, which had already been afflicted four times by the plague, decided to hold a procession and a holiday on the name day of St. Rochus on August 16, now and forever, and to do good to the poor . This should save the city from diseases in the future.

On July 10, 1858, the first Rochus Hospital in Steinheim was built in Wallstrasse. At times up to 30 patients were cared for and the limited capacity of the house led to a new building in Spitalstrasse. This could accommodate 60 patients and was inaugurated on October 12, 1892. The running of the houses was largely dependent on the self-sacrificing work of the Sisters of the Poor Maidservants of Jesus Christ (ADJC).

In 1936, a full-time chief physician, the surgeon Franz Lüttich from Lügde, was won over for the first time. With the continuous increase in the need for hospital treatment, the call for a new hospital became loud. When the nuns were ordered back to their mother house in 1964, the rising personnel costs led to great losses.

The decision to build today's St. Rochus Hospital was made on July 10, 1964, construction began on October 7, 1971. The house was consecrated on January 6, 1975 by the Paderborn auxiliary bishop Nordhues. At that time it had 170 beds with departments for internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics. In 2009, a generous donation from entrepreneurs from Steinheim made it possible to purchase a computer tomograph . In place of the surgical department, a new clinic for acute geriatrics was established in the St. Rochus Hospital in 2012 , in which, in particular, patients aged 70 and over from the entire Höxter district and the neighboring Lippe district, depending on their general condition and previous illnesses, are treated across disciplines become.

Today's St. Vincenz Hospital Brakel has its roots in the Heilig-Geist-Hospital. The altar of the hospital chapel was consecrated on December 25, 1302 by Bishop Otto von Paderborn. The hospital is first mentioned in a document of arbitration dated June 4, 1304.

The document of Bishop Otto von Paderborn strengthens the rights of Pastor Bertholdus von Berg from Brakel and regulates, among other things, the distribution of donated funds during and after the masses. In 1306 the hospital was donated to the city of Brakel after presumably persistent disagreements between the administrator and the pastor Bertholdus.

The city of Brakel and the citizens were henceforth responsible for equipping the hospital, the pastor retained spiritual competence in all matters. The chapel and the hospital, which were in the Ostheimer Strasse, Klosterstrasse and Antoniusgasse areas, were later built over by the Capuchin monastery from 1652 and a new church from 1715. The tasks of a hospital at that time were significantly more extensive than they are today. In addition to feeding the poor and providing short-term accommodation for those passing through, one of the tasks of the hospital was the permanent admission of old or sick people who could buy into the hospital or had to be looked after by the city. The location of a subsequent hospital in the period from 1652 to 1810 has not been precisely clarified, but a location in the vicinity of the hospital garden is assumed. During this time, not only were sick people cared for in the hospital, but citizens of the city bought themselves into the hospital to spend their old age there. Orphans and poor people were also housed there. The comfort offered by the accommodation corresponded to the social status and the assets brought in. The feeding of the poor through the distribution of bread for the poor was also organized from the hospital. The hospital was abandoned around 1820.

The St. Vincenz Hospital Brakel was founded in 1849 and operated at Ostheimer Tor until 1973. During this time, the building was expanded and modernized several times and replaced in 1973 by the new building at the current location of the St. Vincenz Hospital, Danziger Straße in Brakel.

This new building has also been regularly modernized to this day. The most important medical developments include the establishment of a specialist department for rheumatology (2006) as well as specialist clinics for pain medicine (2014) and psychosomatics (2016). The clinic for trauma surgery at the Weser-Egge Clinic has also been located in Brakel since the beginning of 2017.
