The Vivantes - Network for Health GmbH (short Vivantes ) is a municipal hospital operators in Berlin . The state of Berlin is the sole shareholder. The company was founded on January 1, 2001. Vivantes claims to be Germany's largest municipal hospital group .

Company profile

According to its own information, around a third of Berlin's hospital patients are cared for by Vivantes. In 2012 (2011) there were 291,486 (284,812) outpatient and 214,593 (211,500) inpatient treatments. Vivantes operates nine hospitals with over 100 clinics and institutions with a total of 5,329 beds. In addition, twelve nursing homes for senior citizens, two senior citizens' homes, an outpatient rehabilitation facility , a hospice , several medical care centers , an outpatient nursing facility and subsidiaries for catering , cleaning and laundry are operated.

In the 2012 (2011) financial year, Vivantes generated sales of EUR 900 (865) million with 14,391 (13,938) employees. The result was EUR 6.7 million. Over 13,500 people were employed in 2010. After a profit of EUR 2.6 million in the 2009 financial year, the company achieved a profit of EUR 6.3 million in 2010. The turnover in 2009 was 785 million euros, in 2010 it was 837 million euros. Joachim Bovelet has been the Chairman of the Management Board since March 2007, and he announced his resignation in February 2013. At the end of March 2014, the Supervisory Board elected Andrea Grebe as chairman of the management board. The former medical director and spokeswoman for the Regionale Kliniken Holding RKH GmbH has been acting on a provisional basis since October 2013 .

In the Group's own institute for vocational training in health care (IbBG), Vivantes continuously employs over 750 trainees in the professional fields of geriatric care , health and nursing , health and child care , surgical assistants (OTA) and midwives .

Mentioned in an international court judgment

Vivantes GmbH is mentioned in judgment no. 28274/08 of July 21, 2011 of the European Court of Human Rights . She appears there as the former employer of the complainant Brigitte Heinisch. Heinisch sued Germany for violation of her freedom of expression through a judgment of the Berlin State Labor Court , before which she had sued against her termination without notice by Vivantes GmbH. She received € 15,000 in damages from the German state. In 2007, Heinisch was awarded the Whistleblower Prize of the Association of German Scientists (VDW) and the German section of the International Association of Lawyers against Nuclear Arms (IALANA).
