The Vivantes Klinikum Neukölln (original name: Kreiskrankenhaus Rixdorf for the district of Teltow , later name: Krankenhaus Neukölln ) is now a hospital of the Vivantes Netzwerk für Gesundheit GmbH and thus one of the municipal hospitals in Berlin.

history

The building was designed by the architect Reinhold Kiehl at the beginning of the 20th century for the then booming city of Rixdorf in today's Buckow district . It is not known exactly when it was finished. With the incorporation of suburbs into Greater Berlin , the hospital lost its status as a district hospital . Around 1920, the management was held by the Secret Medical Councilor Schneider. The southern road boundary of the facility was now called Stubenrauchring .

In the 1990s, health care moved from the Britz Hospital to the Neukölln Clinic and in 2005 the Neukölln Women's Clinic also moved to the building of the Vivantes Neukölln Clinic.

The classic system was later continuously expanded with additional functional buildings on the large hospital grounds in the south of the Buckow district. Among other things, a modern main building was built in 1985/1986, which consists of two five-story, 315-meter-long, parallel structures with an access hall in between. It was designed by Josef Paul Kleihues and Jürgen König. A perinatal mother-child center with a photovoltaic system on the roof was built around 2010 . In 2013, the clinic management acquired the Ida Wolff geriatric hospital , but had it registered as an independent economic entity. In July of the same year, the first Berlin center for the dental treatment of people with multiple disabilities opened at the Neukölln Clinic.

Furnishing

The hospital (Klinikum Neukölln, KNK) has 23 specialist departments, two rescue centers, 1,196 beds (as of the end of 2016), several computer tomographs and two magnetic resonance tomographs . There is a modern stroke unit as well as cardiology, physiotherapy and a swimming pool, six psychiatric wards, one of which specializes in addiction withdrawal, a crisis ward, a child and adolescent psychiatry and a psychiatric day clinic on the clinic premises as well as two connected psychiatric day clinics outside the clinic premises (Riese- and Emser Straße). The hospital received an environmental award in 2009 for its energy-saving measures and freedom from smoke. Two patient advocates and quality management take care of patient concerns. Around 125,000 patients are treated in the clinic every year, 48,000 of them inpatients. The clinic is the Charité's academic teaching hospital .

In the foyer of the main building there was a bronze sculpture of mother with child , which was removed unnoticed by non-ferrous metal thieves in 2013 .
