history

The company's origins go back to 1877 in Düsseldorf, where the first clinics were built. Maternus-Kliniken AG was created through a new name in 1996 with a subsequent IPO. In 1997, WCM took over 48 percent of the shares. With the insolvency of WCM, the Maternus clinics have belonged to the Cura group of companies since 2007 : Cura owns 81.7 percent of the shares; the remaining 18.3 percent are still in free float.
