Ortenau Clinic
The Ortenau Clinic is a regional clinic network in Baden-Württemberg and has 1,707 beds at the clinic locations Achern , Ettenheim , Kehl , Lahr , Oberkirch , Offenburg Ebertplatz, Offenburg St. Josefsklinik and Wolfach .
With around 5,300 employees, the Ortenau Klinikum treats around 79,000 inpatients every year. On average, more than 3,500 babies are born each year in its delivery rooms in Achern, Lahr, Oberkirch and at the Offenburg location with its mother-child center and level 1 perinatal center.

The Ortenau Children's Clinic is the only specialist clinic for paediatrics and adolescent medicine in the Ortenau district. It was repeated “Excellent. For children ”and is under the patronage of Mauritia Mack, Europa-Park Rust .
Medical emergencies
In medical emergencies, such as severe shortness of breath, heavily bleeding wounds, loss of consciousness or complications during pregnancy, the emergency rooms of the Ortenau Clinic are available to patients. In less critical cases, those affected can contact the on-call medical service on 116 117 and the emergency practices at the clinic locations of the Ortenau Clinic in Achern, Lahr, Offenburg Ebertplatz and Wolfach.
2030 Agenda
Against the background of the more stringent economic efficiency constraints and quality requirements for hospitals in Germany, the Ortenaukreis and its committees began in May 2017 to develop and discuss models that offer the clinic network a perspective for securing the long-term future of the existing sponsorship.
Goals of the strategy debate:
- Ensure high quality, comprehensive patient care and safety
- Attract and retain qualified personnel
- Achieve balanced profitability
- Secure funding for investments
As part of the "Agenda 2030", the Ortenau Clinic Gengenbach, most recently with an anesthesiological, internal and orthopedic department, was closed in December 2018.
The clinics in Ettenheim, Kehl and Oberkirch are also to be closed by 2030. Appropriate construction work is planned for the four remaining hospitals; New clinics are to be built in Offenburg and Achern.
Care and support
The nursing home in Gengenbach-Fußbach accommodates over 300 elderly, mentally disabled, mentally ill and alcoholic people in need of care. The Ortenau nursing and care home, together with the St. Marien Ecumenical Social Welfare Station and the Nollen nursing home, is the sponsor of the Gengenbacher Pflegeetzwerk eV
Initial and continuing education
The education center for health and nursing professions at the Ortenau Clinic with facilities in Achern, Lahr and Offenburg includes over 400 training positions for professions in the healthcare sector. The practical training takes place at all clinic locations of the Ortenau Clinic. In addition to the nursing professions, apprenticeships in various other areas are possible at the Ortenau Klinikum, e.g. B. IT specialist , medical assistant, PKA , PTA , practical year pharmacist , recognized educator , office clerk , BA degree in "Healthcare and Social Facilities" at the Mannheim Cooperative State University and "Physician Assistant" at the Karlsruhe Cooperative State University.
The Ortenau Klinikum Lahr-Ettenheim and the Ortenau Klinikum Offenburg-Gengenbach are academic teaching hospitals of the University of Freiburg . The training of medical students in the practical year is carried out in these teaching hospitals by clinicians with further training authorizations. After completing their studies, doctors can complete their specialist training at the Ortenau Klinikum and acquire various specializations or additional designations.
