Wallenfels coat of arms

The monuments of the Upper Franconian town of Wallenfels are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority. This list reflects the update of June 9, 2020 and contains 91 monuments.

Ensembles

Neuengrün town center

The ensemble includes the historic center of Neuengrün, a Rundanger village located on the heights of the Franconian Forest , which has been handed down from the 14th century. The systematic village layout can be clearly seen not only in the built-up village with its adjoining house gardens, but also on the courtyard properties with the assigned parcels. Radiant from the place, roads and dirt roads lead radially apart, so that the foundation system of the place, which can be typologically described as a row of springs, round ranger or forest hoof village, is preserved right down to the corridors.

Today's systematic development, that is, centrally oriented to the Anger, is based on a new development of the village from the middle of the 14th century, after Neuengrün was handed down as "desolate" in 1323/27, i.e. uninhabited; However, only the church and a house figure from before 1800 are preserved in today's building stock.

Located in a depression sloping to the southeast, the village is clustered radially around the Anger, in which the Catholic Kuratiekirche Mariä Himmelfahrt is located relatively deep. The Anger makes it clear that it is used for the village community, even if only the lower pond is now preserved and the upper pond and the village linden have been lost in recent times.

The church, replacing a chapel, was built in 1794 from community funds and established as a curate in 1842. A miraculous image from the Bohemian-Moravian region also makes the village an attraction as a place of pilgrimage. Little is left of the traditional, ground-floor development. Today the village is characterized by two-storey pitched roof houses, and more rarely by hipped roof houses. The slate and slate cover typical of the landscape has largely been preserved, and is not only a document of historical construction and material technology, but also the color design typical of the landscape. Nepomuk figure Sandstone, base with scrollwork, 1754

This land monument shows a depiction of Johannes Nepomuk as a half figure on a cloud, which is unusual for the Kronach district . The left hand of the saint rests on the chest, the right is stretched up and shows the gesture of blessing with the thumb, index finger and middle finger outstretched. (This gesture was probably added later during a renovation. A picture from 1979 shows the hand with five outstretched and splayed fingers.) The head is surrounded by a halo with five stars. On the cloud in front of the saint are his attributes , a crucifix, a palm frond and a biretta . The figure rests on a base ending with a broad ledge, which is flanked by strong volutes on the sides. On its front side there is a drilled cartridge with the heavily weathered inscription "ST Johannes Von ... wir ... blessedly die Johannes ... 1754".

The fixed on a sandstone base cast iron cross indicates one of a halo surrounding body . The land monument was originally located on Dörnacher Berg, where it reminded of a man who had a fatal accident while working in the forest when he fell from a tree. It was subsequently moved to its current location on the western edge of the town, together with a chapel that was later removed.

Wayside shrine Sandstone, pillars and three-sided attachment with arched roof and sphere, 18th / 19th centuries century

The base and top of this wayside shrine, which probably dates from the first half of the 18th century, lay buried on a plot of land and were not rediscovered until the 1970s. The pillar shaft, presumably three feet long, was missing; it was replaced by a new one and the wayside shrine was repositioned on July 12, 1980. The damaged base probably once bore the name of the founder and the year of construction, but the inscription can no longer be deciphered. The front of the top shows a relief of the coronation of Mary , on the narrow sides a Pietà and a crucifix can be seen.

Wayside shrines Sandstone, base and four-sided top with round arched gable and iron cross, first half of the 18th century

The four-sided attachment with a retracted arched gable rests on a smooth-surfaced base, on the front side of which a sheet bundle can be seen as a relief. The front of the essay shows a relief of the coronation of Mary, on the two narrow sides the five wounds of Christ and a Vespers image can be seen. The reverse shows a representation of the Glosberg Mother of God. A statue of the Virgin Mary in the pilgrimage site north of the district town of Kronach is said to have cried bloody tears several times in 1727, which is why this motif can be found on numerous wayside shrines in the Franconian Forest .

The base of this wayside cross consists of fragments of a baroque wayside shrine. After its shaft was destroyed in a fall, a large ornate iron cross with a body and the Virgin Mary was attached to the top . The three surviving pages of the essay show the coronation of Mary , the Glosberg Mother of God and the risen Christ as reliefs ; the fourth page is broken off. The base of the former wayside shrine is decorated with rocailles .

The reliefs on the four sides of the top are already badly weathered. The front shows the coronation of Mary , the back shows the five wounds of Christ . Wayside shrine Sandstone, column and four-sided top with arched gables, inscribed "1843" on the base

This wayside shrine rests on a square base. Three of its sides are fielded, with rosettes on the north and south sides . In the field on the east side there is the inscription "IAHANN ENGELHARDT BAUER 1843". A simple column shaft carries the top closed by retracted round arches. The four reliefs on its sides show a seated figure of a saint to the east (presumably the Sorrowful Mother of God), to the north the instruments of suffering (Arma Christi), to the west the coronation of Mary and to the south the fourteen helpers with the baby Jesus. The round arches on the east and south sides are each decorated with a star in relief. The donor of the field monument is said to have been a young farmer who got lost on his way back from a neighboring village in the night and fog and vowed to erect a wayside shrine for his safe return home.

The beveled base plate on which this neo-Gothic wayside shrine rests is labeled “Dietrich Kronach”, a reference to the sculptor who made the hall monument. The square base bears the inscription "Established by Math. Wagler Oekonom in Wolfersgrün 1868". An octagon with wide bevels emerges from the base via a bevel, from which the also octagonal shaft of the wayside cane emerges after a bevel. The top of the land monument has a stepped finish. A relief of the Trinity is located in a keel -arched pictorial niche at the front, the other sides are empty. The top is crowned with a stone trefoil cross.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
