geography

Around 15 kilometers northeast of the district town of Kronach lies the church village of Neuengrün in the Franconian Forest Nature Park on a ridge at around 580 meters above sea level . Neighboring villages on the ridge are Wolfersgrün and Schlegelshaid. Neuengrün developed as a historical round village around the village church with radial hoofed floor. The upper pond was removed, the lower pond is still there. The traffic development takes place through the county road KC 32 , which connects Neuengrün with the federal road 173 as well as in the opposite, northern direction with Geroldsgrün . The Franconian Marienweg runs through the village .

history

Neuengrün emerged as a clearing settlement in the High Middle Ages . The first mention was in 1323 as "Newngrün" Bamberger Urbar . Iron ore mining promoted the settlement of the plateau. Two iron hammers were mentioned in 1348. In the course of time, 14 farm properties were built around the local green, which formed the community of Neuengrün and managed the community forest and the Hüllweiher .

Neuengrün, which belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg , passed through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803 together with the remaining areas of the bishopric into the possession of the electorate of Bavaria . The first schoolhouse was built in 1823, followed by a new building in 1913.

In 1862 the rural community of Neuengrün was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office of Kronach . It consisted of three places, the church village Neuengrün and the two wastes Heckenberg and Schindelthal and belonged to the district court of Kronach. In 1871 the community had 162 and the church village 138 inhabitants. In 1900 the 406 hectare rural community had 133 residents, all but one of whom were Catholic, and 20 residential buildings. The church village Neuengrün had 122 inhabitants. Heckenberg was no longer run as a district. In 1925, 131 people lived in 21 residential buildings in Neuengrün, the vast majority of whom were Catholics and belonged to the Neuengrün Curate. The Catholic denominational school was in the village.

In 1950 the community, which also included Wellesberg, which was incorporated by Wolfersgrün in 1951, with the upper and lower mills, had 207 inhabitants and the church village had 149 inhabitants who lived in 19 buildings. The responsible Protestant parish was in Unterrodach . In 1961, 113 people lived in 22 residential buildings in the main town. The parish had an area of 604 hectares with its three locations. In 1970 the parish had 116 and the former community 180 inhabitants. On July 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into Wallenfels as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

In 1987 Neuengrün had 89 residents and 26 residential buildings with 32 apartments. 154 people lived in the former parish. In 1990 the place was the district winner in the competition “ Our village should become more beautiful ”.
