Unterrodach is a district and the seat of the municipal administration of the Marktrodach market in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria with around 1500 inhabitants. Ebersmühle, Kreuzberg, Vogtsmühle and Wichenmühle are part of the Unterrodach district.

geography

Unterrodach is about five kilometers east of the district town of Kronach in the Rodach valley . The Losnitz flows into the Rodach in the south of the village. Unterrodach has grown together structurally with the villages of Kleinvichtach, Kreuzmühle, Oberrodach and Oberrodacher Mühle.

history

Unterrodach is first mentioned as Rada around 1275 .

In 1875 Unterrodach had 1272 inhabitants and 328 buildings, of which 169 were residential buildings. In 1900 the rural community Unterrodach comprised an area of 547.44 hectares, 1068 inhabitants, 1030 of whom were Protestant, and 186 residential buildings.

On May 1, 1978, the formerly independent communities Großvichtach , Oberrodach, Unterrodach, Zeyern and the market Seibelsdorf merged to form Marktrodach as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

In 1987 the place had 1,552 inhabitants and 466 residential buildings.

Unterrodach is located on federal road 173 and federal road 303 , which connect the place with the district town of Kronach, Kulmbach and Hof . From 1900 the place with the Unterrodach stop on the Kronach – Nordhalben railway line was connected to the German railway network, passenger traffic was discontinued in 1976 and the line was dismantled in 2005.

Michaelskirche

A chapel in Unterrodach was consecrated for the first time in 1505. The Protestant parish Unterrodach was founded on March 31, 1804. A year later, construction began on Michael’s Church, which in 1807 received an organ . In addition to the predominantly Protestant Unterrodach, the two predominantly Catholic places Zeyern and Wallenfels belong to the parish .
