geography

course

The Losnitz rises under the name Mühlgraben about 0.7 km southeast of the hamlet Mittelberg von Marktrodach in the Zeyerner Forst in the district of Kronach at about 595  m above sea level. NN . In the rapidly deepening forest valley it runs southwards with directional fluctuations and, after changing to the district of Kulmbach at the foot of a longer mountain edge running from northeast to southwest, it leaves the Franconian Forest near the village of Losau in the municipality of Rugendorf in the Upper Main hill country . After the stream has passed a single courtyard with a pond, from where a short tributary to about 417  m above sea level. NN , it takes the name Losnitz about 2.0 km below the origin of the Mühlgraben .

The Losnitz flows for almost a kilometer past Losau to the southwest and finally crosses under the B 303, which runs along the foot of the mountain . Then it turns to a little below 400  m above sea level. NN to the right on northeast run and changes back to the old district and the old municipality. In the so-called Losaugraben , which gradually deepens , it divides the following Seibelsdorf into a small part to the left of the run and a much larger part on the right slope, then it passes Waldbuch , which is a little further away on the right slope and finally the even more distant village of Wurbach at the foot of the mountain forest right, from where the Wurbacher Graben runs.

Then the stream begins to turn slowly to the west, passes the village of Großvichtach , which is again on the right, and reaches the edge of the settlement of Unterrodach . Opposite the commercial zone of the village in the floodplain, the Losnitz flows from the left and finally east to about 322  m above sea level. NN into the Mühlbach branch of water running next to the Rodach .

Catchment area

The Losnitz drains about 18.5 km² east-northeast to the Rodach. The watershed in the northeast in the Zeyerner Wald runs against the Zeyern , which flows in roughly the same direction further up to the Rodach , the southeast against the Untere Steinach , which drains over the Schorgast to the White Main ; before their next source stream, the Rugendorfer Kaulbach , the area rises only a little. On the southwest border of the catchment area, that of the Leßbach rests for a short time , then that of the Fischbach for a longer time , both of which are downstream tributaries of the receiving Rodach.

Almost a third of the catchment area is forested, namely the mountainous north-eastern part to the right of the main water axis from the turn of the brook to the north-west, where at 678  m above sea level. NN high wheel tip is also the highest point in it. The open field, especially to the left of this axis, is rich in field hedges.
