The Untere Steinach is a right tributary of the Schorgast in Bavaria .

geography

course

Steinachklamm in winter
Steinachklamm in summer

The Untere Steinach arises from the confluence of the two source rivers Schlackenmühlbach and Großer Rehbach . It flows through a 150-meter-deep narrow valley of the Franconian Forest in a mostly south-westerly direction. After leaving the mountains on the striking Franconian Line , it passes the towns of Stadtsteinach and Untersteinach , where it flows into the Schorgast.

At the beginning of the narrow valley route, it passes the 100 meter long Steinachklamm between Waffenhammer and Neumühle . It cuts through a rock made of quartz keratophyr, a very hard volcanic rock. The rocks stand on top of each other in mighty banks and in the past carried Wildenstein Castle to their summit on the right.
