Schnaid (middle) is part of the municipality of the Upper Franconian town of Wallenfels in the Kronach district in Bavaria .

geography

Around 17 kilometers northeast of the district town of Kronach , in the Franconian Forest Nature Park, on a ridge between the Lamitz and Thiemitztal valleys, at around 570 meters above sea level, lies the church village of Schnaid (middle). The traffic development takes place through a community road that connects the place with the federal highway 173 and in the opposite, northeast direction with the district road KC 2 .

history

The Schnaid, originally a pure forest area in the former Waldenfels office , was first mentioned in a document in 1507 in the Kronach office arable in the enumeration of "the woods and woods belonging to the Waldenfels office" as "Sney". The village owes its origin to the clearing activity that began at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries on both sides of the Wilder Rodach and Thiemitz rivers. In 1510 an addendum followed in the land register with the permission of Prince-Bishop Georg III. Schenk von Limpurg to build farms in the area for seven settlers. Two courtyards by Hanns Frisch and Hans Götz were laid out in the Middle Schnaid.

The Middle Schnaid, which belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg , became the property of the Electorate of Bavaria as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803, together with the remaining areas of the bishopric . In 1862 the rural community of Schnaid , to which the village of Mittlere Schnaid belonged, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Kronach . In 1871 the village had 67 inhabitants. In 1900 the population was unchanged. The number of residential buildings was ten. In 1925, 107 people lived in 11 residential buildings in Mittlere Schnaid, the vast majority of whom were Catholic and belonged to the Wallenfels parish, 8.5 kilometers away. The community's Catholic denominational school was located in the village.

In 1950 the parish village of Mittlere Schnaid had 105 inhabitants who lived in 16 buildings. The responsible Protestant parish was in Bernstein am Wald . A branch church of the parish of Wallenfels was consecrated in 1954. In 1970 the parish had 99 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1972, the community of Schnaid with its district Mittlere Schnaid was incorporated into Wallenfels as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . In 1987 Mittlere Schnaid had 90 residents and 25 residential buildings with 32 apartments.

In 1838 the farmer Friedrich Vogler built a chapel between Mittlere Schnaid and Voglerei. In 1924/1925 the chapel was expanded with a massive extension.

In 1953, due to a lack of space in Mittlere Schnaid, a new church was built next to the school according to plans by Lothar Porzelt as a hall with a single-tower facade. The solemn consecration of the church "To the Immaculate Heart of Mary" was on August 29, 1954. The three church bells were hung in 1956. In 2004 an interior and exterior renovation was carried out.
