Wayside shrine Sandstone, pillars and four-sided top with picture niches, arched gables, stone ball and iron cross, 1820

The pillar of this wayside shrine, which is marked with the damaged inscription “MDCCCXX” (= 1820) on the base, rests on a curved, profiled base. The top, which is closed by retracted round arches and crowned by a stone ball and an iron cross, shows reliefs of St. Nicholas and the Three Kings on the east and west . The other two sides have picture niches in which metal panels with more modern painting are embedded. The founder of the land monument is said to have been a pear tree farmer, from whom several Steinwiesener repeatedly stole wood from his forests. He caught the thieves in the act and threatened to take them to justice. The people from Steinwiesen furiously wanted to beat up the farmers after a visit to a pub. On the run, the man vowed to erect a wayside shrine if he should escape his persecutors.

Wayside shrine Sandstone, column and four-sided attachment with image fields and spherical end, 1603

This land monument is the oldest dated and with a height of 360 cm it is also one of the largest wayside shrines in the Kronach district . On the base, which is diamond-coated on all four sides, rises an extra-long, slender column shaft, which carries the narrow top, closed by round arches and crowned with a stone ball. The field on the west side of the top is marked with the initials “AICR” and the year “1603” and shows the Christ fallen under the cross as a relief. A crucifixion group is depicted on the east side, and St. Lawrence and probably St. Stephen can be seen on the two narrow sides .

Wayside shrine Sandstone, pillars and two-sided attachment with a curved end, 1680

The base of this shrine is flanked by volutes ; it has a pillar-shaped shaft, the end of which is a Tuscan capital . On the capital, on the face of which the year “1680” is carved, rests the essay with its crowning with a stone ball and a cross. On the front and back of the attachment there are round-arched niches under the slightly curved end. In the niche at the front there is a marble plaque with an image of St. Lawrence. In the arch of the tablet is the inscription “St. Laurenz, please for us! ”, The words“ Renov. v. Balth. Löffler Grumpel ”. The reason for the renovation was the mobilization for the First World War : Balthasar Löffler praised the renewal of the shrine, threatened by decay, should it return safely from the war. He survived the world war wounded, but died a few years later before he could keep his promise. The renovation was commissioned by the deceased's widow and brother-in-law in the late 1920s.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
