Pond mill in Steinwiesen

The pond mill in Steinwiesen in the Kronach district, first mentioned in 1507, is a cutting or sawmill that is still in operation today and can be viewed as a non-governmental museum . The still reliably working royal Bavarian iron gate from the former Maxhütte in Bergen / Chiemgau is a rarity . The four meter high undershot water wheel has an output of six to seven hp . On the lower floor of the mill, the power is transmitted to the machines via transmission . In the outdoor area you can see the needle weir, the calibration pile, the mill ditch, display boards, the wave tree made of oak, comb wheels , a basket wheel, a reconstructed historical board raft, the mill wood and a wooden quiz. In the sawing shed and in the miller's apartment, the working and living conditions of the almost 900-year-old milling tradition in the Franconian Forest are explained.

The Mühlenverein Rodachtal eV has been providing tours of the facility since 1987. The association has leased the Steinwiesen Teichmühle since 2003 and also performs the cutting (sawing) operation. It is open on May 1st and then from May to October every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. An experienced mill guide is then present. Groups of 10 people or more can also visit the Steinwiesen Teichmühle on weekdays if they register in advance.
