Career

Rushden & Diamonds

Lee Tomlin made his debut on October 15, 2005 at the age of 16 for Rushden & Diamonds in a 0-0 draw at Wycombe Wanderers . For the fourth division he played a total of 21 league games by the end of the 2005/06 season, but rose from bottom of the table from Football League Two . He spent the following four seasons with his team in the fifth-rate Conference National . In the 2009/10 season he scored fourteen goals and missed the return to the fourth division with his team in the play-offs.

Peterborough United

On August 6, 2010, the third division Peterborough United announced the commitment of the 21-year-old Lee Tomlin. In the Football League One 2010/11 Tomlin (37 league games / 8 goals) moved with United as fourth in the play-offs. After a success over Milton Keynes Dons , the club moved into the final and prevailed there 3-0 against Huddersfield Town . The promoted team secured relegation in the Football League Championship 2011/12 as table eighteenth. In the following season Tomlin was able to increase his goal yield from eight to eleven hits, but not prevent the relegation of his team to the third division.

Middlesbrough FC

On January 31, 2014 Tomlin moved on loan to the second division club Middlesbrough FC until the end of the season . Just three weeks later, the loan deal was converted into a firm commitment and the 25-year-old was given a contract until 2017. Tomlin made a good debut in Middlesbrough with four goals in fourteen league games in the Football League Championship 2013/14 . In 2014/15 he played forty-two league games and scored seven goals. He also moved into the play-offs with Middlesbrough FC in fourth place and scored another goal in the 3-0 second leg of the semi-finals (first leg 2-1 for Middlesbrough) against Brentford FC . In the final on May 25, 2015 Tomlin and his team lost 2-0 to Norwich City and thus missed promotion to the Premier League . In January 2015 Lee Tomlin was named Player of the Month in the second division for his good performance.

AFC Bournemouth and Bristol City

In August 2015 he moved to the Premier League promoted AFC Bournemouth and signed a three-year contract there. Due to short periods of use, he was loaned to the second division Bristol City in January 2016 . After convincing performances with six league goals, Lee Tomlin signed on a firm contract basis in Bristol in the summer of 2016.

Cardiff City

On July 13, 2017, Cardiff City announced the signing of Tomlin, but loaned him back to Nottingham Forest in late January 2018 .
