Middlesbrough FC

Bennett was born in Rochdale , but had lived in north-east England since he was ten. Middlesbrough FC scouts spotted him while playing for Northallerton Town FC. However, Bennett was thrown from the U-15 selection of Middlesbrough FC and then tried to get a contract with Newcastle United . He did not succeed, but a year later Middlesbrough FC took him back on.

After good performance for the reserve team, Bennett was equipped with a two-year contract for the first team from the 2008/09 season. In preparation he was able to develop further and was nominated several times for games in the Premier League . In the last game of the 2008/09 season, he made his away debut against West Ham United and then he was handed a new three-year contract.

When he was now an integral part of the first team, he got several appearances in the 2009/10 season and was even allowed to play against Coventry City from the start. When Gordon Strachan became the new coach, Bennett wanted to go on loan, but the club wouldn't let him go. Strachan was followed by Tony Mowbray as Middlesbrough's new coach. So Bennett drew new hope, because he became a regular player and signed a new four-and-a-half year contract with Middlesbrough FC in January 2011 .

Aston Villa

Regardless, he moved to Aston Villa in late August 2012 for a transfer fee that, according to media reports, was around £ 2.75 million. From there he was awarded to Brighton & Hove Albion and the AFC Bournemouth, respectively.
