Callum Paterson (born October 13, 1994 in London ) is a Scottish football player who plays for Cardiff City .

Career

Callum Paterson was born in London to a Scotsman and a Zimbabwean mother . When he was three years old he came to Edinburgh with his parents . He began his football career at the Tynecastle Boys Club in Edinburgh. From 2010 he played in the youth of Heart of Midlothian . In August 2012, Paterson made his professional debut at the age of 17 when he was in the starting line-up in the league game against FC St. Johnstone . In the same month he made his debut for Hearts in the European Cup against Liverpool . In September 2012, Paterson scored twice in the league game against Dundee United and was able to score his first goals as a professional. In his first professional season he was with the Hearts in the league cup final , which was lost to FC St. Mirren . The following season, the Hearts found themselves in bankruptcy proceedings caused by President Roman Romanov . As a punishment, the Hearts received a 15-point deduction and were relegated to the Scottish second division at the end of the 2013/14 season . Paterson completed 37 games in the relegation season as a regular player and scored eleven goals as a defender. In the following second division season 2014/15 , the direct resurgence succeeded.

In June 2017, Paterson moved to Cardiff City .

National team

Callum Paterson played once in April 2012 in the U-18 of Scotland against Serbia . In September of the same year Paterson also played once in the U-19 . He also made his U-21 debut against Portugal in November 2012 . The defensive player played seven times for the U-21 age group up to 2014 and scored one goal in the game against Georgia . November 2014 Paterson was the coach of the senior team , Gordon Strachan , for the internationals against Ireland and England called. Paterson was not used in any of the games. He made his debut two years later, against Italy in May 2016 . For the Scottish selection, Paterson played in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup against Malta , Lithuania and Slovakia .
