Ashley Darel Jazz Richards , also known as Jazz Richards , (born April 12, 1991 in Swansea ) is a Welsh national football player who first played for the Welsh national team in 2012 . The 1.85 meter tall midfielder and defender can be used both on the left and on the right.

Athletic career

Richards came at the age of 18 in the senior division for the first time in the second division game on August 15, 2009 in a 3-0 draw against Middlesbrough FC . He came on a total of 15 missions in the season after the Swansea in seventh just missed the promotion playoffs. Things went better for the club in 2010/11 . In third place, the direct promotion was narrowly missed, but in the promotion playoffs Swansea prevailed against fifth-placed Reading FC . Richards only came to six missions. In the following Premier League season Swansea was able to reach a place in midfield, but Richards only came to eight first division games between October and December and was only used in an FA Cup defeat in January 2013 against Arsenal and then at the second division club Crystal Palace FC on loan, for which he then played 11 league games.

Even after returning to Swansea, he was not used in the Premier League in 2013/14, but was used in a 2013/14 UEFA Europa League game against Malmö FF on August 8, 2013 . He was then loaned to Huddersfield Town , for which he played nine games in the Football League Championship 2013/14 . Swansea then advanced to the sixteenth finals of the Europa League without him and only failed there at SSC Napoli . At the beginning of the Premier League season 2014/15 Richards came to seven first division games for Swansea, but was then loaned to the second division club Fulham , first for a month and then the rest of the season. He played 14 games for Fulham before returning to the season finale for three games with the Swans, who just missed qualifying for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League in eighth place . For the 2015/16 season he then switched entirely to Fulham, received a contract until 2018 and was used in 22 second division games. But already for the 2016/17 season he moved to league rivals Cardiff City . He was used in 26 league games. In the 2017/18 season , he was promoted to the Premier League as a second division runner-up , but made little contribution with only six appearances. As third from bottom, Cardiff was immediately relegated. Also due to an injury, he only made four first division appearances.

National team

In 2009, as an 18-year-old, Richards played twice in the qualification for the U-21 European Championship 2011 and then three times for the U-19 team in the first qualifying round for the U-19 European Football Championship 2010 , in Wales against Portugal and Spain failed. Immediately afterwards the third qualifying match for the U-21 European Championship followed, and then in September 2010 two more. In 2011 and 2012 he took part in the first six qualifying games for the 2013 U-21 European Championship .

On May 27, 2012, at the age of 21, he played his first international match with the senior national team. In the friendly game against Mexico, which was lost 2-0, he was substituted on in the 80th minute. It was used for 90 minutes. In the next game of the senior national team he was not used because he was involved in the U-21 qualifying game that was taking place at the same time. Even if he did not play for the U-21s afterwards, which had not qualified for the finals of the European Championship, he then had to wait ten months for his next short assignment in the A-Team: in the qualifying game for the 2014 World Cup , he was against Croatia in Substituted in the 64th minute. The next four games then took place again without him. On October 15, 2013, he was used for the first time over 90 minutes in the last qualifying game against Belgium , but came again only to a brief appearance in the subsequent friendly against Finland . After that he had to wait 19 months before being used again due to an injury. And again it was the Belgians, against whom he played over 90 minutes in qualifying for the Euro 2016 in June 2015. In the game, the Welsh succeeded with a 1-0 a decisive step to the first successful qualification for a European Championship finals. But it took three more games, in which he also played for over 90 minutes, until the qualification was finally perfect, in which he thus had a small share. In the subsequent friendly matches in November 2015 and March 2016, he was only substituted in for the last.

On May 9, 2016, he was appointed to the provisional squad for the Euro 2016, with which a training camp in Portugal will begin on May 23. In the Welsh’s first European Championship game against Slovakia, which they won 2-1, he came to a brief stint two minutes before the end of the game. It was the only time that he came into play in the tournament. In the qualification for the 2018 World Cup , which began after the EM , he only had three appearances. He played his last international match so far on October 11, 2018 in the greundschaft game, which he lost 4-1 to Spain .
