Ruth Wagner
Ruth Wagner (born October 18, 1940 in Wolfskehlen ) is a German politician ( FDP ).
From 1987 to 1991 and 2003 to 2008 she was Vice-President of the Hessian State Parliament and from 1999 to 2003 Hessian Minister for Science and Art as well as Deputy Prime Minister . Ruth Wagner has been Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Frankfurt RheinMain Cultural Fund since 2008 .
Life and work
Ruth Wagner was born in October 1940 as the daughter of a seamstress in Wolfskehlen. Her father died as a soldier in February 1944 near Chornobyl . She spent her childhood in Riedstadt-Wolfskehlen in Hesse. First she attended a secondary school. However, she managed to convince her mother to move to high school. After High School on school Gernsheim 1960 graduated Ruth Wagner studying the German language , the history and political science at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , which they in 1966 with the state examination ended for teaching at secondary schools. After the subsequent legal clerkship , she worked as a teacher at the Viktoriaschule in Darmstadt from 1968 to 1976 . From 1976 to 1978 she worked at the Hessian Institute for Educational Planning and School Development . From 1969 to 1975 she was deputy chairwoman of the Hessian Philologists Association and the German Teachers Association of Hesse.
Wagner has been a member of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom since 1993 .
Political party
Wagner has been a member of the FDP since 1971. From 1977 to 1990 she was chairwoman of the FDP district association in Darmstadt. Since 1977 she has been a member of the FDP state executive in Hesse and from 1986 to 2008 also the FDP federal executive . From 1987 to 1995 she was deputy state chairwoman and from 1995 to 2005 state chairwoman of the FDP in Hesse . In February 2000 she accepted a falling out with the federal party when the Hessian FDP spoke out in favor of remaining in the coalition government led by Prime Minister Roland Koch ( CDU ). At the FDP state party conference on November 21, 2009 in Wetzlar , Wagner was elected honorary chairman of her party.
MPs
Ruth Wagner was a member of the Darmstadt city council from 1977 to 1980, 1989 to 1995 and again from 2006 to 2011.
Wagner was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1978 to 1999 and again from 2003 to 2008. She ran in the constituency of Darmstadt-Stadt I , but was always elected via the FDP state list. From 1994 to 1999 she was chairwoman of the FDP parliamentary group and from 1997 to 1999 deputy chairwoman of the Enquête Commission Future tasks of the Hessian parliament at the turn of the 21st century . From 1987 to 1991 and from 2003 to 2008 Wagner was Vice President of the State Parliament. With the end of the legislative period on April 4, 2008 and the constitution of the new Hessian state parliament on April 5, 2008, she left the parliament as a member.
Wagner was a member of the Federal Assembly in 1984, 1999 and 2003 .
Public offices
After the state elections in 1999 she became the Hessian Minister for Science and Art on April 7, 1999 and deputy to the Prime Minister in the state government led by Prime Minister Roland Koch ( CDU ). After the CDU was able to achieve an absolute majority in the 2003 state election , it left office on April 5, 2003.
Wagner has been chairwoman of the Commission for the History of the Jews in Hesse since 2005 .
Honors
In 2006 Ruth Wagner was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit.
The Prime Minister of the State of Hesse , Volker Bouffier , awarded Ruth Wagner the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal of the State of Hesse on December 1, 2010 for services to German unity .
