Oswald Adolph Kohut
Oswald Adolph Kohut (born January 19, 1901 in Berlin ; † July 23, 1977 in Langen (Hesse) ) was a German politician of the FDP .
Life and work
Oswald Adolph Kohut was the son of the editor-in-chief and writer Oswald Kohut . After graduating from high school, Kohut studied history , philosophy and literature at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin as well as in Heidelberg and Giessen . In 1930 he received his doctorate in philosophy. First he worked as a journalist at Ullstein-Verlag in Berlin. The Reichsschriftleitergesetz (Reichsschriftleitergesetz) of October 4, 1933 stipulated in Section 5 “An editor can only be who”: Paragraph 3 “is of Aryan descent and is not married to a person of non-Aryan descent”. With that he was banned from working. In 1935 he took over the distillery and liqueur factory "HA Wagner" in Langen near Frankfurt / Main (later Dr. Kohut AG) and in 1941 passed the distiller examination in Berlin.
In the 1950s Kohut became President of the Federal Association of the German Spirits Industry and Vice President of the Working Group of the German Spirit Industry . He was also chairman of the Association of Hessian Spirits Manufacturers and was a member of the trade committee of the spirits monopoly administration . He was also a member of the advisory board of the Offenbach am Main Chamber of Commerce and Industry .
Kohut's great-grandfather was Heinrich Ferdinand Mannstein . His grandfather was Adolph Kohut and his grandmother was Elisabeth Kohut-Mannstein .
Political party
Kohut joined the FDP in 1947, soon became deputy state chairman and was state chairman of the FDP Hesse from 1958 to 1961 . In the federal board meeting on May 1, 1952, he called for the separation of the FDP from the Württembergische DVP , because this had damaged the entire party by forming the coalition with the SPD and the GB / BHE under Reinhold Maier . He threatened that the Hessian FDP could leave the party as a whole if it stuck to the DVP. Finally, the federal executive agreed to disapprove of the Baden-Württemberg coalition, but without drawing any conclusions. Kohut was a member of the FDP federal executive from 1952 to 1962 .
From 1956 Kohut was also the Deputy Federal Chairman of the Liberals. He resigned this office after the meeting of the FDP Federal Main Committee on October 21, 1961, at which the continuation of the government with the Union parties under Konrad Adenauer had been decided with 60 to 37 votes . He was protesting against the breach of the election campaign promise, according to which the FDP would continue to govern with the CDU and CSU , but wanted to insist on a new chancellor .
In addition to his work in the FDP, Kohut was also a member of the advisory board of the Humanist Union .
Local politics
From 1946 to 1951, Kohut was a city councilor in Langen. He was also a member of the district council in the Offenbach district and led the FDP parliamentary group there.
MP
From 1954 to 1957 Kohut was a member of the state parliament in Hesse , since 1955 as chairman of the FDP parliamentary group. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1965. In June 1965 he voted against the emergency laws in the Bundestag . In 1959 he was a member of the 3rd and in 1964 the 4th Federal Assembly .
