Elisabeth Kohut-Mannstein , also Elisabeth Kohut-Manstein , actually Elisabeth Amalie Steinmann (born May 3, 1844 in Dresden , † November 29, 1926 in Berlin-Grunewald ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher .

Life

Elisabeth Steinmann was born in Dresden and had a sister named Grete. She was trained by her father, the singing teacher Heinrich Ferdinand Steinmann , who is known under the pseudonym Heinrich Ferdinand Mannstein. She took the stage name Elisabeth Mannstein. From 1877 she was married to the writer Adolph Kohut . She died on November 29, 1926 and was buried in the Grunewald cemetery.

In her career as a singer, she has appeared at the St. Petersburg Court Opera , the Düsseldorf Opera House and the Berlin Kroll Opera . In 1870 she appeared as a guest singer at the “ Deutsches Theater ” in Amsterdam and Wiesbaden . Her appearances were known as "Donna Anna" in Don Giovanni , as "Leonore" in Fidelio , in the title role in Euryanthe by Carl Maria von Weber or as "Frau Fluth" in Lustige Frauen von Windsor by Otto Nicolai . In 1872 she was engaged at the Stadttheater Aachen . After completing her active stage career, she worked as a singing teacher in Berlin.

She had a son, Oswald Kohut (1877-1951). One of her grandchildren was Oswald Adolph Kohut .
