Antonio Maria Bernacchi (born June 23, 1685 in Bologna ; † March 13, 1756 ibid) was an Italian castrato , singing teacher and composer . He was one of the most famous Italian singers in his day. His voice was old .

Life

Antonio Maria Bernacchi's parents were Angelo Maria Bernacchi and Maria Maddalena Rossi. Bernacchi was a singing student of Francesco Antonio Pistocchi . Giovanni Antonio Ricieri taught him counterpoint. Bernacchi also studied counterpoint with Giuseppe Antonio Bernabei in Munich . His debut on the opera stage was in Genoa in 1703 , from then on he was engaged in all Italian opera houses and worked with the Italian composers of his time. 1714 named him Antonio Farnese for Virtuoso his court orchestra. From 1720 to 1727 he worked in Munich. In three seasons, 1716, 1717 and 1729, he was also engaged at the King's Theater in London , where he sang in world premieres and revivals of Handel's stage works. In 1730 he went back to Italy and sang until 1735.

Bernacchi was accepted into the Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna in 1722 and was its chairman in 1748 and 1749.

Bernacchi founded a music school in Bologna in 1737, which after his death was still associated with certain singing techniques such as virtuosity and improvisation until the 19th century. Bernacchi's pupils here were Tommaso Guarducci, Giovanni Amadori and Anton Raaff . Farinelli was briefly his pupil in 1727.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart remarks about the singer Anton Raaff : "The Bernacische school - it is not to my liking" and means by that the excessive ornamentation of Cantabile arias.
