Antonio Farnese
Antonio Farnese (born November 29, 1679 , † January 20, 1731 ) was the youngest son of Duke Ranuccio II Farnese of Parma and Piacenza . When his older brother, Francesco Farnese , his father's successor, died childless on February 26, 1727, Antonio succeeded him on the throne.
Antonio Farnese was the last of the male line of the Farnese family and remained single until his accession to the throne. One year after his brother's death, on February 5, 1728, he married, now 48 years old, Enrietta d'Este (1702–1777), daughter of the Duke Rinaldo d'Este of Modena . When Antonio Farnese died almost three years later, he had no offspring.
His heiress was his niece Elisabetta Farnese (1692–1766), the only surviving member of the family who had been married to the Spanish King Philip V from the Bourbon dynasty since 1714 . She gave the duchy, but also the property in and around Rome - the Palazzo Farnese in Rome, the Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola, the Villa Farnesina , but above all the Farnesian collections - to her son Charles III. further.
