René Rock (born November 29, 1967 in Offenbach am Main ) is a Hessian politician ( FDP ) and chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1989, René Rock did his military service and studied modern and medieval history at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University with a focus on economic and social history. Rock left university without a degree. He worked as a publicist for three years and, together with the CDU member of the state parliament Frank Lortz and the publicist Tom Rohrböck, was the editor of the Forum magazine, which appears in the Offenbach district .

From 1999 he was managing director of various companies and since 2001 parliamentary group manager of the FDP parliamentary group in Offenbach district council .

politics

René Rock has been a member of the FDP since 1993 and has been the district chairman of the Offenbach Land district association and a member of the state executive since 1998.

In terms of local politics, he has been chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Seligenstadt city council and the Offenbach district council since 2001.

Since the state election on January 27, 2008, he has been a member of the Hessian state parliament and since May 9, 2017 chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament.

In the state elections in Hesse in 2013 , he ran in the Offenbach Land III constituency . Here he was defeated by Frank Lortz . However, he succeeded in re-entering the state parliament via a list of the party. In the 2018 election campaign, he was the top candidate of his party. Under his leadership, the FDP received 7.5 percent of the vote in the state elections on October 28, 2018 (2013: 5.0 percent). In November 2018, he was confirmed in office as group leader. Rock is the spokesperson for social and energy policy.
