Christian Dürr

Christian Dürr (born April 18, 1977 in Delmenhorst ) is a German politician ( FDP ) from Ganderkesee and a member of the German Bundestag . He is deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group and head of the budget and finance working group.

Life

Dürr attended elementary school, orientation level and high school in Ganderkesee. From 1993 to 1994 he was an exchange student at Kingman High School in New Kingman-Butler , Arizona ( USA ). After graduating from high school in 1997, he first completed a 13-month community service at the DRK blood donation service at the Bremen-Mitte Clinic , until he began studying economics at the Leibniz University in Hanover in 1998 with a focus on corporate management, marketing and public finance. He wrote his diploma thesis in the subject of public finance on the topic: “Selected problems of CO 2 emissions trading”. He finished his studies in 2007 with a degree in economics.

Dürr lives in Ganderkesee, has been married since 2012 and has two children. He is of the Protestant denomination.

Career in the FDP

Christian Dürr joined the Young Liberals (JuLis) in 1995 and was district chairman of the Young Liberals in Oldenburg-Land from 1997 to 1999. In 1998 Dürr became deputy state chairman of JuLis Lower Saxony until he finally took over the office of state chairman of the Young Liberals of Lower Saxony in 2002.

Dürr has been a member of the FDP since 1996 and became a member of the district board of Oldenburg-Land in 1997 . In 2003 he took over the deputy district chairmanship. In addition, he has been a member of the Lower Saxony state executive since April 2000 and of the Oldenburg district executive since October 2001. In February 2017, he was finally elected chairman of the Oldenburg district association.

Since 2011 Dürr has also been a member of the FDP federal executive committee and has been a member of the presidium since 2013 and is the speaker of the parliamentary group chairmen's conference.

Parliamentary activity

In the state elections in February 2003 , the FDP was able to return to the Lower Saxony state parliament with 8.1% ( March 1998 : 4.9% and thus no seat in parliament until 2003). Dürr ran for the first time in 2003 in the constituency of Oldenburg-Land and has been a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament since then. In 2003 the FDP in Dürr's constituency of Oldenburg-Land achieved 11.5% (first vote Dürr: 7.9%). In 2008 the FDP was able to achieve a result of 11.3% (first vote by Dürr: 11.2%) and in 2013 of 14.1% (first vote by Dürr: 6.0%). In the early state elections in Lower Saxony in 2017, Dürr decided not to apply again for a state parliament mandate due to his candidacy for the 2017 federal election .

From 2003 to 2009 Dürr was a member of the Environment and Climate Committee and environmental policy spokesman for the Lower Saxony FDP parliamentary group. On February 17, 2009 Dürr succeeded Jörg Bode as the parliamentary managing director of the FDP parliamentary group. On October 27, 2009 he followed Bode again and took over his previous role as FDP parliamentary group leader in the Lower Saxony state parliament. He retained this position after the state elections on January 20, 2013 and gave it up on September 26, 2017 after his election to the German Bundestag. Stefan Birkner was elected as his successor .

Since 2013 Dürr has been the media policy spokesman for his parliamentary group and the FDP parliamentary group chairman's conference . He represented the FDP alongside Horst Kortlang as a deputy member in the Committee for Federal and European Affairs, Media and Regional Development of the Lower Saxony State Parliament. He was represented as an advisor in the committee for the preparation of the election of the members of the State Court of Justice and in the committee for the preparation of the election and approval under Article 70, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution.

In 2017 Dürr ran for the first time for the German Bundestag . After four years of extra-parliamentary opposition , the Free Democrats achieved in the federal election in 2017 , a second vote result of 10.7% (+ 6.0%) in the Federation and 9.3% (+ 5.1%) in Lower Saxony, which Dürr of entry into the Bundestag succeeded in topping the Lower Saxony FDP state list. In his constituency (28 / Delmenhorst - Wesermarsch - Oldenburg Land) the FDP second vote result was 10.1% (+ 5.1%) in the double-digit range and thus above the national average. Dürr received 9.0% (+ 5.8%) of the first votes there. On September 25, 2017, the day after the federal election, the FDP members of the Bundestag from Lower Saxony elected him to head their regional group . Dürr is also the chairman of the Northern regional group of the FDP parliamentary group, which includes not only Lower Saxony but also the liberal MPs from Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.

On October 20, 2017, the FDP parliamentary group elected Christian Dürr as deputy group chairman. He is head of the working group of the parliamentary group for budget and finances. In the context of the Corona crisis 2020 and the resulting economic crisis , Dürr made the proposal to introduce a negative profit tax , which was well received by politicians from other parties and economists.

In the 19th German Bundestag, Dürr is represented as a deputy member of the budget committee and the finance committee.

Dürr is a member of the advisory boards of the Federal Association of Entrepreneurs' Association and the Turkish-German Network as well as the program advisory board of Antenne Niedersachsen .

He is a member of the German Parliamentary Society , the Europa-Union Deutschland , the Friends of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Hanover , the Society of Friends of the Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Foundation , the Liberal Mittelstand , Network 80 , the Parliamentary Association of Lower Saxony and SV Werder Bremen .

At the local level Dürr member of the local and home club Ganderkesee , in local and tourist office Schönemoor , in hospice circle Ganderkesee , the development association Steding honor Bookholzberg and Friends School Ganderkesee . Dürr is also committed to the Pro A20 initiative .

Others

Dürr was a member of the 14th Federal Assembly on June 30, 2010 and the 15th Federal Assembly on March 18, 2012, which elected the German Federal President . He was appointed to the 16th Federal Assembly on February 12, 2017 on the proposal of the FDP parliamentary group by the Lower Saxony state parliament on December 6, 2016 .

In 2014, 2015 and 2016, Dürr was selected by the business magazine Capital in the category of young political stars in the so-called "Young Elite - the Top 40 under 40".
