The FDP chairman Christian Lindner described such a candidacy from outside as "hardly conceivable a few years ago". Wischhusen gave eight percent as a voting target and began her campaign in March 2015 self-deprecatingly and - similar to the surprisingly successful Katja Suding in Hamburg - strongly tailored to her person. In the election for Bremen's citizenship on May 10, 2015, the FDP received 6.6 percent of the vote and moved back into parliament after four years. Wischhusen joined the party that same evening. At the federal party conference of the FDP in May 2015 she was elected to the federal executive committee.

Wischhusen has been a member of the 19th Bremen citizenship since June 8, 2015 and was elected chairman of the FDP parliamentary group on the same day. As such, it advocates education, economic and transport policy issues.
