Harry John

Harry John (born September 23, 1928 in Rostock , † April 7, 1977 in Bremen ) was a German politician ( FDP ).

Life

The son of a baker and confectioner attended the high school in Rostock and passed the secondary school leaving certificate. In 1945 he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service (RAD) and was taken prisoner of war until 1946 .

After his release he attended the Rostock Pedagogical Institute from 1946 to 1948 . He then worked as a teacher. John became a member of the LDPD in 1946 . After the districts were formed in the GDR , he was chairman of the Rostock district committee of the LDPD from 1952 to 1953. In 1953 he was imprisoned for political reasons , sentenced to six years in prison and sent to the Bautzen prison .

After his early release in 1956, he moved to the Federal Republic and settled in Bremen-Huchting . After completing his studies at the University of Education in Bremen from 1959 to 1961, he also resumed his teaching profession. He joined the FDP in 1957 and was a member and temporarily chairman of the FDP local association in Huchting (Bremen) . In 1963 he became a member of the FDP state committee in Bremen and belonged to the Bremen parliament from 1963 until his death , where he succeeded Paul-Heinz Schubert from 1969 to 1975 as chairman and from 1975 to 1977 as deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group.
