Konstantin Elias Kuhle (born February 11, 1989 in Wolfenbüttel ) is a German politician ( FDP ) and lawyer . The lawyer was federal chairman of the FDP-affiliated youth organization Junge Liberale from 2014 to 2018 and has been a member of the FDP federal executive committee since May 2015 . Kuhle has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017, where he has been the domestic policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group and has been Secretary General of the FDP Lower Saxony since 2018 .

Origin, education and profession

Kuhle grew up in Eilensen and attended the Paul Gerhardt School in Dassel . He is the older brother of the basketball player Maximilian Kuhle . After a year abroad in Ecuador , he passed his Abitur in 2008 and then worked as a community service provider in a project for assisted living at the German Red Cross in Einbeck . From 2009 he completed a law degree at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and at the Institut d`Études Politiques de Paris , which he graduated with the first state examination in 2014. From 2009 to 2014 he was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . During his legal traineeship at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg, he completed positions at the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe and at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Berlin. In April 2017 he passed the second state examination. He works as a lawyer for the law firm Herfurth & Partner in Hanover.

Kuhle has been a member of the Young Liberals since 2002 and has been a member of the FDP since 2005. At the Young Liberals, he was district chairman of the Young Liberals Northeim , deputy state chairman for programs of the Young Liberals of Lower Saxony and deputy federal chairman for programs. On March 14, 2014, at the 48th Federal Congress of Young Liberals in Kassel , he was elected as the successor to Alexander Hahn as the new Federal Chairman with 86.7% of the votes cast . On April 24, 2015, he was re-elected for one year in Bonn with 95% and on April 1, 2016 in Leipzig with 83%. On April 7, 2017, he was re-confirmed in office in Oberhausen with 92.3%. In April 2018, he did not stand for re-election.

For the European elections in Germany in 2014 , Kuhle stood for the FDP in 20th place on the list given by Alexander Graf Lambsdorff . In 2009 he had run unsuccessfully for a mandate in the European Parliament .

In April 2018, Kuhle was elected General Secretary of the Lower Saxony FDP regional association. Since 2019 he has been chairman of the FDP district association Göttingen-Osterode.

On September 26, 2016, Kuhle was nominated as a direct candidate for the FDP for the 2017 federal election in constituency 53 (Göttingen) . He prevailed against Lutz Knopek , who had represented the constituency in the Bundestag until 2013. In March 2017, Kuhle was elected to sixth place on the party's state list for the 2017 federal election by the regional assembly of representatives of the FDP Lower Saxony . In the 2017 Bundestag election he received 4.57% of the first vote, and the state list made it into the Bundestag.

After moving into the German Bundestag, Kuhle became a member of the Committee on Home Affairs and Home Affairs . There he acts as domestic policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group and as a rapporteur for the topics of public service law, administrative law, gun law, European security cooperation and matters relating to the European Police Office (EUROPOL).

He is also a member of the Committee on European Union Affairs and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . Kuhle is the deputy chairman of the Andean States parliamentary group and was elected a member of the Joint Commission for the Implementation of the Aid Concept for the Victims of Colonia Dignidad in July 2018 .

Kuhle is chairman of the young group of the FDP parliamentary group , to which the 29 under forty-year-old members of the 80-strong FDP parliamentary group belong.

Positions

During his time as Federal Chairman of the Young Liberals, Kuhle campaigned for a renewal of the FDP. The world editor Ulf Poschardt judged that Kuhle was “relentless” on the difficult situation of the Liberals after their departure from the Bundestag in 2013. In a guest article for the Frankfurter Rundschau , a year after the 2013 Bundestag election, Kuhle proclaimed “self-determination” as the political goal of the Liberals in all situations ”as a supplement to the party's economic policy. At the same time, the liberals should build a “new relationship” with the Greens and open up to traffic light coalitions . In May 2015, Kuhle achieved intra-party recognition by successfully submitting an application for the legalization of cannabis to the FDP federal party conference, which was accepted with 62% of the delegate's votes.

In the area of ​​domestic politics, Kuhle campaigned for civil rights and data protection, especially in the digital world. He calls for effective strategies in the fight against political extremism, structural changes in the security authorities and a reform of federalism in the area of ​​internal security. In a guest contribution for the FAZ in 2018, Kuhle explained why Seehofer created a security risk with his blanket rejection of Islam.

In the area of ​​European politics, Kuhle is an advocate of a European federal state and also takes strong pro-European positions.

Kuhle is assigned to the social liberal wing of the FDP .
