Lutz Knopek
Lutz Knopek (born January 4, 1958 in Göttingen ) is a German politician ( FDP ).
Life and work
Knopek graduated from the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Göttingen in 1977 . He then studied biology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . He received his doctorate in 1989 on III. Zoological Institute.
He then worked for various pharmaceutical companies in sales and marketing. From 2002 until his election to the German Bundestag, he worked in the sales department of a US pharmaceutical company that develops and markets drugs to fight cancer.
Knopek is married and has one daughter.
Political activity
Knopek has been a member of the FDP since 1985. From 1987 to 1988 he was district chairman of the Young Liberals in Göttingen and from 1989 to 1991 a member of the State Board of the Young Liberals of Lower Saxony. Between 2005 and 2010 he was chairman of the Göttingen city association, and from 2011 to 2016 he was district chairman of the Göttingen FDP. Knopek is also a member of the state board of the FDP Lower Saxony.
From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the German Bundestag , where he was a full member of the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Sports Committee . He was also an alternate member of the Health Committee and the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. He was the founder and chairman of the parliamentary group "Life and Cancer".
In August 2010, Knopek and Frank Schäffler co-founded the "Liberal Awakening". On June 29, 2012, Knopek voted in the Bundestag against the so-called fiscal pact and the permanent European rescue package, ESM.
Knopek is currently working in the FDP in the federal technical committees "Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety" and "Sports Policy".
