The Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium (internal school for short: THG ), founded in 1957 as the Neues Gymnasium , is located in the east quarter above the city center of Göttingen . It was named in 1977 after Theodor Heuss (1884–1963), the first Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany .

General

Since March 1997, the THG has been the first school in Lower Saxony to use the designation Europaschule due to its extraordinary commitment to promoting the European idea in teaching as well as contacts with schools in other European countries.

In addition, in September 1997 the grammar school was awarded the Environmental School in Europe 1997/98 award for its special commitment to the sustainable improvement of the school environment.

Since the 2005/06 school year, the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium has had a special European profile in the compulsory elective area for grades 7 to 9, which aims to develop the intercultural competence of the students in such a way that a deeper understanding of the cultural, historical, denominational and social characteristics of European nations arise. This profile is supervised by the departments of history, geography, politics, economics and religion and, at the same time, pursues the goal of strengthening the students' media and presentation skills.
