Truro School is a private school in the city of Truro in Cornwall , England . The Methodist School was founded in 1880 under the name Truro Middle Class College for Boys. It has also been approved for girls since 1990 .

In the current school year 2006–2007, 810 students are attending the school.

The current Headmaster of Truro School is called Paul Smith.

In order to attend school, students must pass an entrance examination.

The current school fees (as of September 2006) are £ 5753 for boarders, and £ 2950 for day pupils.

Terrain and facilities

Truro School is built on a hill above the city of Truro. The grounds include a school chapel, the school's own theater, a heated swimming pool, two sports halls, a running track, several sports fields and tennis and squash facilities.

Class and house system

The school still uses the traditional English way of counting school years: There are lower grades 1 to 5 and the sixth form, which is made up of the lower sixth ("lower sixth form") and the upper sixth ("upper sixth form" ") composed. This corresponds to grades 7 to 13 in modern public schools in England and grades 6 to 12 in Germany.

Each student is (as is usual in English schools) divided into a "house". These "houses" are used, among other things, for sports competitions that are held between the houses. Students attending Truro School are placed in one of the following four houses:

  • Wickett (color red),
  • Vinter (color gold),
  • School (color green) and
  • Smith (color blue).

Boarding school life

Although the vast majority of students are external, the school has four student residential buildings:

  • Trennick - Older Boys, Grades 4 through Upper Sixth
  • Poltisco - younger boys, grades 1 to 3
  • Pentreve - younger girls, grades 1 through 5
  • Malvern - older girl, sixth form

In March 2007 there were about 95 boarding school students, a quarter of whom were not British. The majority of foreign students make up Chinese from Hong Kong . In addition, 11 German students attended the school in the spring trimester 2007, including 10 boarding school students; in the fall trimester 2007 there were still 7 German boarding school students.

Since September 2007 there are only three residential buildings, as Trennick and Poltisco were merged:

  • Trennick - Boys, Grades 2 through Upper Sixth
  • Pentreve - younger girls, grades 1 through 5
  • Malvern - older girl, sixth form
