Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (born Jahn , born March 10, 1958 in Düsseldorf ) is a German politician and member of the FDP federal executive committee . From 2008 to 2014 she was First Mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . She has been a member of the 19th German Bundestag since the 2017 federal election .

education and profession

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann is a freelance publishing representative by profession . She studied journalism , political science and German at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and graduated with a Magister Artium . In 1986, she was at LMU with the submitted work there pictures from America: a newspaper scientific study of the United States reporting the Second German Television (ZDF) for Dr. phil. PhD. From 1988 to 2008 she worked for the medium-sized Nuremberg youth book publisher Tessloff , for which she looked after bookshops in North Rhine-Westphalia and northern Rhineland-Palatinate.

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann is married and has three grown children (a daughter and two sons) and two grandchildren.

Political party

On December 7, 2013, Strack-Zimmermann was elected deputy chairwoman of the FDP federal party at the extraordinary FDP federal party conference in Berlin , where she was responsible for the issues of community, social affairs and health.

On March 22, 2014, she was elected district chairwoman of the FDP Düsseldorf at the regular FDP district party conference in Düsseldorf. Until then, she held the position of deputy district chairperson. On May 15, 2015, Strack-Zimmermann was re-elected as deputy federal chairwoman at the federal party conference in Berlin against the Bavarian state chairman Albert Duin with 338 to 280 votes. On February 20, 2016, Strack-Zimmermann was confirmed in her office as district chairwoman at the regular district party conference of the FDP Düsseldorf.

The delegates of the 68th FDP party convention in Berlin confirmed Strack-Zimmermann on April 28, 2017, with 58.39% of the votes in their office as deputy FDP federal chairman.

At the 70th ordinary FDP federal party congress, she no longer ran as deputy party chairman, but was elected as an assessor in the federal executive committee at the suggestion of the party chairman with the second best result.

Local politics

From 1999 to 2004 she was a district representative in the district assembly in district 7 (Düsseldorf) . Since the local elections in 2004 she has been a member of the City Council of Düsseldorf. Strack-Zimmermann retained her council mandate even after her election as a member of the German Bundestag. From 2005 to 2009 she was chairman of the council group of the local FDP, from 2009 to 2014 deputy group chairman. From 2008 to 2014 she was First Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the state capital Düsseldorf. From May 26, 2014 to September 25, 2017, she was again chairwoman of the FDP council group. She was also deputy chairwoman of the Rhineland Landscape Assembly from 2009 to 2014 . From 2014 to 2018 she was deputy chairwoman of the FDP parliamentary group. On June 1, 2018, she gave up her mandate in the Rhineland Regional Assembly due to her mandate in the Bundestag. Stefan Feiter took over as her successor. Strack-Zimmermann still belongs to the FDP parliamentary group in the Rhineland Regional Assembly and the parliamentary group executive as an expert citizen and deputy member of the finance committee, hospital committee 2 and the committee for personnel and general administration.

Candidacy as Lord Mayor

The members of the FDP Düsseldorf nominated Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann at the district election meeting of the Free Democrats on September 21, 2019 as candidate for mayor for Düsseldorf in the local elections on September 13, 2020. Strack-Zimmermann was nominated with 94.2% of the votes cast and was also voted number 1 on the council list with 95% of the votes cast.

On June 25, 2016, she was elected direct candidate for the 2017 Bundestag election in constituency 106 (Düsseldorf I) at the district election meeting of the FDP Düsseldorf with a good 90% of the votes cast . On November 20, 2016, Strack-Zimmermann was elected to number 2 on the state list for the 2017 federal election with almost 77% of the votes cast at the state election assembly of the FDP-NRW.

In the federal election on September 24, 2017 , Strack-Zimmermann was elected as a member of the 19th German Bundestag at number 2 on the state list of the FDP-NRW . She ran as a direct candidate in the Düsseldorf I constituency . With Strack-Zimmermann as constituency candidate and 19.8% of the second votes , the FDP again achieved its best result in Germany, as in the previous federal election . Compared to the previous federal election, however, the FDP achieved its largest increase in earnings with Strack-Zimmermann (+ 9.2%).

In the 19th German Bundestag, Strack-Zimmermann is a full member of the Defense Committee, a full member of the Committee on Building, Housing, Urban Development and Municipalities and a deputy member of the Interior Committee. For the Group of the Free Democrats in the Bundestag is Strack-Zimmermann defense policy spokeswoman and spokeswoman for local politics. She is also the chair of the working group (AG) Defense and the AG Municipal Policy of the parliamentary group and a member of the AG Construction, Housing, Urban Development and Municipalities.
