The non-profit cultural fund Frankfurt RheinMain GmbH was founded on December 20, 2007 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . In February 2012, Wiesbaden joined as a further partner. In August 2012, the city of Hanau and the Kulturfonds signed a cooperation agreement, which was followed by the Brothers Grimm-Stadt joining the Kulturfonds under company law in the first quarter of 2013. The cities of Bad Vilbel and Offenbach are cooperation partners. The share capital of the Kulturfonds is 120,000 euros. The company is based in Bad Homburg.

The society is open to other members from the region .

The members (with the exception of Hessen) pay 2 euros per inhabitant as annual fees. The state of Hesse adds the same amount again. In the years 2009 to 2011, the state will support the fund with an additional one million a year.

Tasks, goals and projects

The purpose and task of the company is to bundle the cultural resources and forces of the region - u. a. also through overarching major projects - and to coordinate them in order to make them better known and more attractive both nationally and internationally. In addition, it should "enable the preservation of traditional and the development of new culture [...]".

In addition to individual funding projects, the title of the first major project initiated by the Kulturfonds was “The Phenomenon Expressionism”; this was presented on May 5, 2009 at a press conference in the Städel . It comprised a series of events from August 2009 to February 2011. This was followed by the main topic "Impulse Romanticism". From 2012 to 2014 the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain focused on the romanticism on the Rhine and Main, drawing on the density of outstanding artists who lived and worked here.
