Helmut Fröhlich (born June 16, 1929 in Großbrück , Breslau district) is a German politician ( SPD ).

biography

Education, work and family

Cheerful attended elementary school. From 1943 to 1945 he completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic in Großbrück. In 1947, after his release from Soviet captivity, he did a second training as a telecommunications mechanic at the Federal Post Office from 1947 to 1950 . He then worked as an apprentice trainer at the Bundespost in Oldenburg . From 1954 to 1956 he studied politics in Hamburg at the Academy for Community Economy and graduated in 1965 as an economist. From 1957 to 1971 he was secretary of the Deutsche Postgewerkschaft (DPG) in Bremen. In 1971 he became first chairman of the district administration of the DPG.

Fröhlich is married to the former (1984–1995) member of parliament Gisela Fröhlich (SPD).

Fröhlich became a member of the SPD in 1953 and was active in various functions in the SPD Bremen .

From 1967 to 1971 he was a member of the Bremen Parliament . He was the spokesman for the Deputation for Home Affairs.

From 1971 to 1983 he was Senator for the Interior of Bremen for three legislative terms in the Senate of Mayor Hans Koschnick (SPD) as the successor to Franz Löbert (SPD). He was also popular as a “market senator”. In 1975 he also became chairman of the Senate Commission for Human Resources (SKP). On November 10, 1983, Volker Kröning (SPD) became his successor. At a Senate reception for his 80th birthday, Mayor Jens Böhrnsen (SPD) praised his achievements: “In times of many demonstrations and fierce social disputes, he showed stamina. He always advocated not placing responsibility for socio-political conflicts on the police alone, which earned him a great reputation with the police union. "
