The Schiersteiner road in Wiesbaden is almost in its entire history part of the federal highway 262 , and at least two lanes plus bus lane expanded and central reservation. It connects the city center with the districts to the southwest and the 643 federal highway . With over 50,000 vehicles a day, it is the most heavily used entrance to Wiesbaden and an important route for bus traffic, similar to Berliner Straße and Mainzer Straße .
The name giver is today's district Schierstein , as the street, seen from Wiesbaden, leads there and represents the historical, straight connection.
Course of the road
Schiersteiner Straße begins in Wiesbaden city center on Adelheidstraße before Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring (1st ring), which is part of the B 54 , and passes the Dichterviertel and Rheingauviertel , crosses Konrad-Adenauer-Ring (2nd ring ). Ring) to then leave the city at the Europaviertel on the district boundary between Biebrich and Dotzheim under a disused railway bridge of the Aartalbahn and merge onto the federal motorway 643 .
Apart from the residential complex on Wolfram-von-Eschenbach-Straße, Schiersteiner Straße is bounded between the 1st and 2nd ring by an undamaged, closed Wilhelminian style building. The four to five storey buildings are partially listed . Carl Theodor Wagner's watch factory was also located here between the 1910s and 1970s . A new stationary speed monitoring system has been located in the central reservation area there since summer 2007. At the northeast corner of Konrad-Adenauer-Ring is the Asklepios Paulinen Clinic , one of the city's three large general medical hospitals.
Between 2. Ring and Waldstrasse, the former barracks area of the Europaviertel dominates to the west, with two to three-story buildings appearing as a uniform ensemble. To the east of the street there is a historic building structure made up of shops, commercial and residential buildings. There is commercial use on both sides between Waldstrasse and the listed bridge of the Aartalbahn .
Monuments
Two monuments on the edge of today's Europaviertel point to the military history of the site on Schiersteiner Straße.
The first was erected in honor and in memory of those who fell in the Franco-German War at the Battle of Weissenburg in 1870 between the current confluence of Georg-Marschall-Strasse and Waldstrasse.
The second was set up by the state capital on the occasion of the Airlift for Berlin in 1948/49 at the former main entrance to Lindsey Air Station (Camp Lindsey), today's Willy-Brandt-Allee, and commemorates 31 killed members of the US air forces stationed in Wiesbaden.

history
At the beginning of the 20th century, Schiersteiner Straße was connected to the tram network thanks to the adjacent barracks area, which is now the Europaviertel . Line 5 (white) led via the Ringkirche and Rheinstrasse to the Südfriedhof in Erbenheim . At the end of the 1920s, however, operations were started and switched to buses.
