New building of the Packhaus theater; Background: St. Jakobus Packhaus

In 1801, with renovation in 1850, the classicist , two-storey packing house was built on the Wüstestätte and Hinter der Holzpforte in Schnoor, right next to the St. Jakobus packing house from 1661 with the renovation from around 1828. The Francke and Graeve company operated that around this time Packhouse.

Günther Huster founded a Zimmer Theater in Bremen in 1947/48 , which performed in Contrescarpe 8, from 1951 on Schwachhauser Ring 78, from 1955 on Schwachhauser Heerstraße 30a and in 1976 in Schnoor, where Huster abbreviated the name to Theater im Schnoor .

The Packhaustheater was created on the initiative of Huster and Bremen citizens such as Senator a. D. and Sparkasse Director Rolf Speckmann . The modern new building with the characteristic shed roof components made of concrete was built in 1976 with 140 seats according to plans by Gerhard Müller-Menckens . In 1977 Huster left this theater and it was now called the Packhaus Theater im Schnoor . The Packhaustheater im Schnoor Verein used to support the activities of the theater, which was owned by the city of Bremen until 2012. Karin Schieck then runs the house with a mixture of drama, literature and cabaret guest performances. The artist Hanne Wieder played a. a. on this stage. The packing house also offered performances in the summer for a long time. Later comedies were increasingly played u. a. with Stefan Schneider. The city did not want to modernize the building; she sold the house.

The theater director and owner of the house in the form of a GmbH has been Knut Schakinnis since 2012, who owns and runs six small theaters in Germany, including the Theaterschiff Bremen . The building was also renovated and reopened in October 2012. Ingrid Steeger played the first leading role. Up to 250 performances per year were planned.

An ensemble of around seven (2014) members plays the house with small, entertaining plays and comedies such as Attention German , Landeier - Farmers are looking for women , Alone in the sauna , Machos on ice (all 2012/13) or grilled husband and offside trap - Wenn Men Losing Their Minds (2014).
