Young Theater Bremen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Junge Theater Bremen was a free theater in Bremen from 1991 to 2012 and, in addition to contemporary drama productions and interdisciplinary festivals and series, has made a name for itself as a premiere theater in the fields of chanson , comedy and cabaret . The program consisted of two to three world premieres of pieces and material by young authors.

Venues and production

The Junge Theater Bremen played several venues in Bremen: Most recently since 2003 the Schwankhalle in Bremer Neustadt , from 1999 to 2005 a hall ("Gate 48") at the old freight yard near Bremen Central Station and from 2005-2010 an old stevedore in the new Überseestadt district . Previously it recorded u. a. the Bremer Concordiatheater , the brewery cellar of the Bremer Theater and made guest appearances with individual productions in the Packhaus Theater Bremen , in the Bremer Lagerhaus and in the atrium . From 1992–1997, the Bremen Young Theater ran its own theater at Friesenstrasse 16, where the Bremen Criminal Theater works today .

The Junge Theater Bremen has regularly participated as a co-producer in various forms of city display - from the display of entire streets to sites and buildings temporarily prepared for cultural use to participation formats in the context of urban development and district work with the "freiRäumeN" project in cooperation with Stadtgrün Bremen . Since 2002 the Junge Theater Bremen sought a repositioning as a free theater of the city of Bremen and developed the Schwankhalle with the Bremen Senator for Culture as a place for performing arts and "space for ideas" in Bremen.

From 2009 the Junge Theater Bremen split up its production labels under new names and since then has been operating for theater productions and own productions "Alte Liebe Produktion" and as an event agency as "Klons - the office for further culture".

Since 2013/14, the Bremen Theater has occasionally used the term "Junge Theater Bremen" for its youth productions and theater-educational offers.

history

Since 1992, the Junge Theater Bremen has repeatedly discovered, developed and established new venues for theater, music and culture in Bremen. These include the Brauhauskeller , which has been used by the Stadttheater since 1993 , a venue in Friesenstrasse 16-19 in Bremen that was used commercially from 2000 to 2009 and, until 2010, a hall at the old freight yard at Bremen Central Station (Gate 48) , around which many other artists have settled and from which the independent event venue Schaulust , which has been in operation since 2011 , has developed.

Since 2003, the Junge Theater Bremen has played and operated the art and artist house Schwankhalle in a former brewery in Bremer-Neustadt and since 2006 the Alte Stauerei in Bremer Überseestadt , a new district in the former port of Bremen. This is a venue for club programs, theater evenings, readings and shows. Events and rehearsals will also take place in the freight yard.

The theater was directed from 2005 to 2012 by Anja Wedig, Susanne von Essen and Youdid Poppe. The theater makers see the "center of work" the alert perception and contemporary depiction of the world and everyday life, politically imaginative and artistically innovative. New forms of theater are tried out and original formats are developed with artists, which can sometimes have a longer development phase and start-up time.

Since 2000, the theater has been working intensively as a mobile theater laboratory with the display of various locations in urban space - a parking garage, a supermarket, a bumper car, apartments and bars.

Conception

The Junge Theater Bremen tries with projects beyond its theater productions to use urban space and media and in interdisciplinary projects with urban planners, sociologists, journalists to make the limits and tasks of art recognizable with regard to work, education, urban development and media formats. In addition to regular radio programs, this includes a "Kiosk Festival", a "Gardens Festival" and the audio arts festival "HörZu: Zeichen & Wunder", the city display "freiRäumeN" or projects "at the borders of art, medicine and humanities" together with the "House in the Park" at the Bremen-Ost Clinic .

The annual festival "Theater for Everyone" is free for a whole month of the year (mostly October or November) or the amount and type of admission can be determined by the audience.

Co-productions take place together with freelance authors, theaters and directors - among others with kunst: raum Sylt-Quelle on Sylt , the Weimar Theater , the Berlin puppet theater group Das Helmi , the Berlin dance company two fish .

Once a year, the Bremen Young Theater announces the Bremen Authors and Producers Prize , which aims to redefine the concept of author in the performing arts.
