Fausto Paravidino
Fausto Paravidino (born June 15, 1976 in Genoa ) is considered the “child prodigy” of Italian drama.
In his piece “Peanuts” Paravidino addresses the G8 summit in Genoa. The young Italian author also devotes himself to the subject of G8 in the work “Genua 01”, which was commissioned by the London Royal Court Theater a little later . 300,000 people came to Genoa in 2001 to demonstrate for the end of hunger, oppression and war, for a just world order and against the destruction of the environment. But they were confronted with a level of police violence that is reminiscent of the bloody dictatorships in Chile and Argentina: 23-year-old Carlo Giuliani died from a carabiniere's bullet, peaceful mass demonstrations were shot at with tear gas, and hundreds of people were injured in street battles. During a night raid on one of the demonstrators' quarters alone, police beat 90 opponents of the summit so violently that 60 of them had to go to hospital, seriously injured.
"Genoa 01" is a bitter inventory of the events during the G8 summit in summer 2001. Paravidino wants to enlighten with his semi-documentary piece and leaves no doubt as to who, in his opinion, is responsible for the tragic events. He assembles testimony, police reports and media reports into a chronology that focuses on the death of Carlo Giuliani. The play was premiered in the Berlin Schaubühne on Lehniner Platz in Germany.
