Julien Bertheau

Julien Bertheau (born June 19, 1910 in Algiers , Algeria, † October 28, 1995 ) was a French actor and director.

Life

The member of the Comédie-Française was best known in France as a stage star. In the cinema he starred in several films by Luis Buñuel (Dawn, The Milky Way , The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie , The Specter of Freedom , This Obscure Object of Desire ) . He also played Napoleon alongside Sophia Loren in Madame Sans-Gêne (1962). He had other roles again alongside Loren and Jean Gabin in The Judgment (1974), in Costa-Gavras ' Special Tribunal (1975) and as the ex-lover of Antoine Doinel's mother in François Truffaut's Love on the Flight (1979). Bertheau played his last role in 1986 in Costa-Gavras' Honorable Crooks .

Bertheau was also successful as a theater director.
