action

The young, attractive Yvette Maudet is doing more badly than right through life. Again and again she gets astray, to which the often momentous entanglements with men who succumb to her beauty in rows also contribute. Together with her friend Noémie, Yvette commits an amateur robbery on a watchmaker , which gets out of hand when the old man's wife arrives. Yvette is caught and turns to the renowned lawyer André Gobillot for help. She signals to him that she doesn't have a penny in her pocket, but that she can pay him in "kind". The lawyer cannot refuse this offer and achieves an acquittal for Yvette in court. A passionate affair takes its course.

At first, Gobillot's wife Viviane generously overlooks her husband's love affair, believing she knows how this liaison will end. It quickly becomes clear, however, that this relationship not only endangers his marriage, but also gradually affects his professional environment. André Gobillot seems to be above things because of his life experience, since he doesn't fool himself about Yvette; on the other hand, however, he does not manage to end the affair with the seductive young woman.

Yvette is also in a relationship with the medical student Mazetti, who fell for her unconditionally. The young man is becoming increasingly jealous of his rival. When Yvette is expecting a child from Gobillot, she wants to decide for a secure future at his side. On a whim, she goes to Mazetti to sleep with him one last time. When she is about to leave, she is stabbed to death by the jealous young student.

criticism

“An elderly Parisian defense attorney is taking on the case of a blonde slut who has just committed an amateur robbery. He falls for the woman as does a student who eventually murders her out of jealousy. Darkly toned film entertainment, masterly in the camera work. "

The film magazine Cinema spoke of a seldom shown, once hostile pearl based on a Georges Simenon novel. Sex symbol Bardot, then at the height of her career, pull out all the stops and don't have to hide next to the acting icon Jean Gabin . The conclusion was: “The finest, permissive French cinema”.
