The Senate Bovenschulte is the Bremen state government formed after the election of Bremen citizenship on May 26, 2019 . He is supported by a majority of the parliamentary groups of the SPD , Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and Die Linke in the Bremen citizenship . This government majority is opposed to an opposition from the CDU , AfD , FDP and BIW .
After the SPD no longer became the strongest party in the general election and the government made up of the SPD and Alliance 90 / The Greens had lost its majority, the previous coalition partners entered into negotiations with the Die Linke party. On the side of the SPD, its top candidate , the President of the Senate and Mayor Carsten Sieling , who has been in office since 2015 , acted as negotiator. After the coalition negotiations were concluded, however, Sieling declared that he was no longer available for the office of head of government .
At their state party conference on July 6, 2019, the SPD in Bremen approved the coalition agreement and nominated Andreas Bovenschulte, who was elected chairman of the parliamentary group on June 24, 2019, as a candidate for mayor. Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen also approved the coalition agreement at a state assembly on July 6, 2019. On August 13, 2019, the coalition agreement was signed by the three parties of the red-red-green coalition .
The election of Andreas Bovenschulte as President of the Senate by the Bremen Citizenship took place in its 2nd session on August 15, 2019. After the Citizenship had increased the number of Senate members from eight to nine by changing the law , the other Senators were elected, including the SPD and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen three each and Die Linke two. Then State Councilor Olaf Joachim was elected a further member of the Senate in accordance with Article 107 of the State Constitution of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .
