Björn Tschöpe
Björn Tschöpe (born July 31, 1967 in Bremen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2003 to 2019 he was a member of the Bremen parliament , including the last ten years as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. Since August 2019 he has been a State Councilor with the Senator for Justice and Constitution of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .
biography
education and profession
After graduating from high school and doing civilian service in the rescue service, Tschöpe studied law at the University of Bremen . In addition, he was recognized as a paramedic in 1989 and as a paramedic teaching assistant in 1993. From 1994 to 1995 Tschöpe ran a vocational school for paramedics. Between 1995 and 1997 he completed his legal clerkship , including a six-month stint at the Judicial Commission of New South Wales in Sydney , and from 1998 worked as a freelance lawyer in a civil and administrative law firm . Between his community service and self-employment, he was active in various employment relationships for the Workers' Samaritan Association (ASB) as a paramedic, lecturer and in foreign aid projects in Latvia and Azerbaijan .
politics
In 1983 Tschöpe joined the SPD in the Horn Achterdiek local association. Since then, he has held various delegate and board positions within the party, the SPD, the Jusos , the social democratic cultural forum and the working group of social democratic lawyers .
Tschöpe was a deputy in the cultural deputation from 1999 to 2003 and a member of the Bremen citizenship from June 8, 2003 to August 16, 2019. In the state parliament he was active in various committees, also a member of the SPD parliamentary group executive committee, domestic policy spokesman and responsible for lesbian and gay policy and questions of religious policy. From October 19, 2009 to June 7, 2019 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.
At the beginning of the 20th legislative term of citizenship ran Tschöpe not again for the group's presidency , but resigned on 16 August 2019 to the Parliament in order after the successful formation of the Bremen Senate , the Office of the State Council at the Senator for Justice and Constitutional Claudia Schilling to begin .

Tschöpe had been a state board member since 1994 and from 2005 to 2010 he was state chairman of the Bremen Workers' Samaritan Association. Since he co-initiated the spin-off of essential parts of the business from the association into operating companies, he was a member of the supervisory board of ASB Altenwohn- und Pflegeheim GmbH , ASB Ambulante Pflege Bremen GmbH , ASB Sozialpsychiatrische Hilfen GmbH , ASB Society for social help mbH , and the ASB civil service school until 2010 Ritterhude GmbH and ASB Zuwandererbetreuungs GmbH . He was a member of the Broadcasting Council of Radio Bremen . Since 1988 he has been a member of the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (ÖTV) and the successor organization United Service Union (ver.di).
