State Health Minister lead in the German states that each of the health competent state ministry .

The department is represented by its own ministry in almost all countries, except in four countries. There it is located in the Ministry of Social Affairs. In all countries, the minister is also responsible for other departments, often for social affairs or labor market policy.

Within the framework of cooperative federalism , the health ministers of the federal states work together in the health ministers' conference ( GMK for short ), at whose meetings the responsible federal minister regularly takes part.

Acting state health ministers of the German federal states

Of the current 16 state health ministers, eleven are women and five are men. Six incumbents belong to the SPD , four to the Union parties ( CDU / CSU ), three to the Greens , two to the Left and one to the FDP .

Melanie Huml (CSU, in Bavaria since 2013) has the longest term of office of the current state health minister .
