The Hessian Ministry for Digital Strategy and Development is one of nine ministries in the State of Hesse . It has its seat in the State Chancellery in the state capital Wiesbaden

The Ministry was re-established when the Bouffier III cabinet was formed on January 18, 2019. Kristina Sinemus was also appointed as the first Minister of State of the new ministry, while Patrick Burghardt moved into the state authority as State Secretary.

Focus of work

On May 20, 2019, Sinemus presented the priorities of its future work to the press and praised Hesse's national and European pioneering role in the international digitization competition. The 5 main areas of work are:

  • Expansion of the digital infrastructure : The aim is to connect all households and institutions in Hesse with gigabit capability by 2025 and to ensure a comprehensive fiber optic connection right into the building by 2030 . The new 5G mobile communications standard is to be introduced in selected model regions from 2020 .
  • Strengthening the city and the country for the future : the digital village linden project initiated by Sinemus provides financial support to cities and municipalities in setting up communal WLAN infrastructures. For integrated traffic management in the metropolitan region Frankfurt / Rhine-Main establishing a is office Smart Region provided.
  • Digital town hall expand : administrative services should be strengthened accessed via a common online platform.
  • Using artificial intelligence responsibly : The TechCampus is intended to strengthen basic and innovation research and achieve a strong application focus . A Competence Center for Responsible Digitization is also planned, which is to be dovetailedwith the Council for Digital Ethics , which Sinemus heads.
  • Advancing the digital strategy of Hessen : the Digitales Hessen strategy is to be continuously updated and cross-departmental cooperation projects aimed at citizens and benefits are to be developed from it

The first press conference of the Hessian digital minister was criticized in the press and by representatives of the parties in the Hessian state parliament .

In May 2019, Sinemus announced that the Federal IT Cooperation (FITKO) established by the IT Planning Council will be based in Frankfurt am Main.

On September 27, 2019, the first meeting of the federal and state ministers responsible for digitization took place at the DE-CX Internet hub in Frankfurt am Main . Five fields of action were jointly resolved, which were summarized in the "Frankfurt Declaration of D17".

In November 2019, the establishment of a Hessian competence center for responsible digitization was agreed with the TU Darmstadt .
