Klaus Nitzsche

Klaus Nitzsche (born January 24, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Nitzsche studied from 1962 at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig and wrote his diploma thesis on the subject of “Comparative climatological and bioclimatological considerations between the low mountain range and the lowlands of the GDR in the focus of winter sports”. He stayed as a research assistant at DHfK, completed his doctorate and habilitation. In 1984 he took over the management of the institute for winter sports, at times he held the office of vice dean of the faculty and was head of the ski scientific center. His students included the later national biathlon trainers Uwe Müßiggang and Frank Ullrich . In addition, Nitzsche was a member of the coaching committee of the German Skierverband (DSLV) of the German Democratic Republic . After the dissolution of the Leipzig University in 1990, Nitzsche was involved in setting up the sports science faculty at the University of Leipzig and became head of the winter sports department and director of the Institute for Movement and Exercise Science in Sports.

From 1991 he was also a member of the biathlon commission of the German Ski Association (DSV), was one of the founding members of the planning staff of the DSV coaching school and was responsible for training biathlon trainers. With his work on the basis for the later successes of the German biathlon national team at the Olympic Games and other international competitions, he was credited with making a decisive contribution.
