Isaac Mbenza (born March 8, 1996 in Saint-Denis , France ) is a Belgian football player . The striker has been under contract with second division Huddersfield Town since August 2018 .

Career

Mbenza was in French Saint-Denis was born. He moved to Belgium with his Congolese family at the age of five . He took his first football steps with the capital club FC Brussels . After a year at KV Mechelen , he returned to France in 2012, where he joined the Valenciennes FC . He received his first appearances in the reserve team back in 2013, but it was not until February 6, 2015 that he made his debut for the men's team in Ligue 2 . In the game against AJ Auxerre he was substituted on in the closing stages. He scored his first goal on the last matchday of the 2014/15 season in a 2-1 home win against GFC Ajaccio . In the following season 2015/16 he was already the first choice in the storm of the northern French. In 35 league appearances, he scored six times and assisted in three other goals.

On July 27, 2016, he left Valenciennes FC and switched to Belgian first division club Standard Liège . He scored his first and only goal for the Rouges on December 11th, in a 3-0 home win against KVC Westerlo . He was on the pitch in all six group games of the 2016/17 Europa League , in which Standard dropped out of the competition as third in the table.

During the winter break of 2017, he turned his back on Belgium and went back to France, where he signed a contract with HSC Montpellier until 2020. He made his Ligue 1 debut on February 4 against SC Bastia . A week later, he scored twice in the 3-0 away win at AS Nancy . He scored another goal by the end of the 2016/17 season . In the following season 2017/18 he played in all 38 league games, in which he netted eight times. In cup competitions, he scored two more times.

On the English deadline day for the 2018/19 season, he moved to a loan deal for the first division club Huddersfield Town . He made his league debut for the Terriers on August 25, 2018 in a goalless draw against Cardiff City . During this season he completed 22 league games in which he scored one goal. With Huddersfield he had to go into the EFL Championship , but stayed with the club because it activated his purchase option. In the 2019/20 season he only made five appearances in the league by the end of January 2020.

On January 31, 2020, he moved to the French first division club SC Amiens on loan until the end of the season . Since the 2019/20 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic , he only played three league games there and relegated to Ligue 2 with the club.

National team

Mbenza represented Belgium in U-17 , U-19 and U-21 selections . For the U-21 national team, he played 12 missions in which he scored two goals.
