Smart region

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A smart region is a regional association of different regional authorities that includes digitized areas from municipalities, the (local) economy and civil society. It is an example of inter-municipal cooperation. Such a network consists of numerous components and actors from a region. In particular, the economy (cultural industry) and handicrafts, logistics, tourism and education are key players in a smart region.

The technical basics and principles are identical for Smart Cities and Smart Regions: Firstly, the IT platform also enables the horizontal linking of originally separate areas in a Smart Region. Second, Smart Region also means that applications, services and data from at least two domains are systematically digitally networked. Thirdly, it is also important for a smart region as an innovation region to pay special attention to the collection, analysis and use of (sensor) data.

A key difference is that cooperation is more important than the principle of sharing. In this respect, intelligent services will in part differ between smart cities and smart regions. The greater complexity of those involved in a smart region also makes it even more obvious that the basic IT platform must guarantee openness and interoperability. This is the only way to promote decentralized and cross-regional partnerships that in turn ensure the success of complementary initiatives (e.g. e-government).

Smart Region is also a project of several initiators and sponsors at European level, which has been in existence since 2004, on age-appropriate employment in certain regions.

aims

The Smart Region project aims to research the reasons for the common early retirement practice and subsequently examine design elements for extending employment for today's 35- to 45-year-olds. The scientific analysis focuses on national framework conditions, regional characteristics as well as operational and individual reality. Overall, the Smart Region project aims to identify and implement integrated bundles of measures on the four levels mentioned and subject them to a transnational comparison. First results on demographic change in selected regions of Germany , Austria and Portugal are currently being evaluated.

Initiators and sponsors

The initiators of the Smart Region project - age-appropriate work in innovative regions are the Association of German Pension Insurance Institutions (VDR) and the old-age insurance research network with their project partners INIFES Augsburg, SÖSTRA Berlin, ÖSB Consulting GmbH Vienna and CEDEP Lisbon. The Smart Region project is funded as part of the Article 6 tender of the European Social Fund (ESF) on the subject of "Innovative approaches to managing change".
