Horst Schmidt (politician, 1925)
Horst Schmidt (born June 5, 1925 in Sprendlingen , † October 4, 1976 near Neu-Isenburg ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1969 until his death he was the Hessian Minister of Social Affairs .
Life and work
After graduation Schmidt studied human medicine in Berlin and Frankfurt and in 1950 in Frankfurt with the work , the importance of the blood substitute by reinfusion in tubal pregnancy Dr. med. PhD. He then worked as an assistant doctor in Langen and Offenbach am Main and as a specialist in pulmonary medicine in Winterkasten and Offenbach. From 1955 he headed the tuberculosis welfare department in Offenbach's health department, became a medical councilor in 1957 and a member of the presidium of the Hessian state health council in 1959.
On October 4, 1976, he died in a traffic accident on the Autobahn 661 between the Neu-Isenburg and Dreieich exit while trying to help in another accident.
politics
On April 20, 1943, Horst Schmidt was accepted as a member of the NSDAP at the age of 17 under membership number 9,374,885 . In a study published in 2011 by the historian Hans-Peter Klausch on behalf of the Die Linke parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament , Horst Schmidt's membership in the NSDAP is classified as belonging to the group of those who “can be seen as young victims of years of indoctrination, from which they have dissolved after the war at the latest ”.
Schmidt joined the SPD in 1952 and was chairman of the Working Group of Social Democratic Doctors in Hesse from 1955.
Schmidt was elected to the German Bundestag for the first time in 1961 , where he represented the Offenbach constituency for three electoral terms. He resigned his Bundestag mandate on November 3, 1969, since he had previously joined the Hessian state government as Minister of Social Affairs. From December 1970 until his accidental death he was a member of the Hessian state parliament .
On October 23, 1969, Schmidt was appointed Minister of Social Affairs to the state government of Hesse led by Prime Minister Albert Osswald . During his tenure, he played a key role in setting up the so-called Hessenkliniken .
Honors
A Wiesbaden hospital, a sports hall in Egelsbach and Griesheim and the senior centers of the workers' welfare in Heusenstamm and Melsungen are named after Horst Schmidt . There is also a Dr. Horst Schmidt youth sports scholarship, which is awarded by the Hessian state parliament.
