Matthias Jena

Matthias Jena (born February 12, 1961 in Munich ) has been chairman of the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB) Bavaria since March 2, 2010 .

Life and education

Matthias Jena is the son of Angelika and Günter Jena . He attended secondary school in Würzburg , Hamburg and Munich and then studied social pedagogy at the State University of Applied Sciences in Munich , degree: Dipl.-Soz.päd (FH). He then studied political science, psychology and evang. Theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

He was involved in evangelical youth work on a voluntary basis for around 20 years. a. from 1984 to 1989 1st chairman of the Evang. Youth Munich. From 1989 to 1995 Jena was chairman of the district youth association in Munich. He is married and has two daughters.

From 1986 to 1990 Jena was the office manager of the then SPD state chairman Rudolf Schöfberger . From 1991 to 2006 Jena held various positions at DGB Bayern before he switched to IG Metall Bayern as press spokesman . On February 12, 2010, Jena was elected to succeed Fritz Schösser as chairman of the DGB Bavaria.

Jena is a member of IG Metall and ver.di , before he switched to IG Metall he was a GEW member. He has been a member of the SPD since 1979 . Jena has been a member of the supervisory board of SKF GmbH , Schweinfurt, since November 2010 , and of the Bavarian Broadcasting Council since April 2011 , as well as chairman of the board of directors of AOK Bayern since January 2016 and a member of the regional synod of Evang since March 2014. Awards

On February 1, 2019, he was awarded the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in silver.
