Federal Association of Independent Welfare Care

The Federal Working Group of Free Welfare Care e. V. ( BAGFW ) represents a joint working platform of the six central associations of the independent welfare organization . According to their own statements, these central associations represent over 90,000 institutions and services nationwide with over 1.3 million employees and many voluntary workers. 60 percent of all employees in voluntary welfare work are employed by denominational welfare organizations.

Every two years, the lead management of the BAGFW, which in 2017 and 2018 lies with the German Caritas Association, changes in rotation . During this time, Peter Neher is President of the Federal Association of Independent Welfare Care .

The German Social Prize is a media prize awarded annually by the BAGFW since 1971 for journalistic work on social topics. It is awarded for the print, television, radio and online categories (since 2017).

Postage stamps

The donation surcharges for the Christmas stamps issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany go to the Federal Association of Independent Welfare Care.
